Final Destination: Bloodlines slays with $232M at the box office! 🩸🎥

2025-06-03
We connected with Emmy-winning Director of Photography Christian Sebaldt, ASC, to discuss the experience of crafting “Final Destination Bloodlines,” from defining the visual style of different time periods, to shooting for IMAX, and more. 👇

"We tested old Canon FD lenses, and K35s, anything that I had been dreaming about applying for those period sequences. They all looked nice. And we’re all going, ‘Yeah, this is a possibility. Those are good. We could use those.’ And then Court Weeks (General Manager & Business Development, Keslow Camera Vancouver,) came and said, ‘Have you tried the Leitz Primes?’ And I said, ‘I actually have not. I've worked with many other of the Leitz lenses, but not those.’ And he said, ‘Just try them.’

...We just fell in love with them. They're not too big or heavy, and they're all pretty much the same size. They're easy to work with. And we all said, ‘Let's just shoot both the period and present day segments with these, because we like the look of them.’ They’re spherical, which I preferred over anamorphic because with so many visual effects, I just thought that would make our life easier down the road. Also, to play it safe with IMAX, if we had lenses with aberrations and issues on the edges, that might be a mistake. Everybody's happy with the outcome. We're thrilled." - Christian Sebaldt, ASC

We watched "Final Destination Bloodlines".

It's billed a horror movie, but what I experienced was a splatter disaster dark comedy and I absolutely loved it.

If you don't mind people being mutilated in the most excruciating ways and you appreciate brilliantly-written unreliable foreshadowing and hilariously lampshaded foreshadowing, this film is a must-see.

Not a single minute passes without the movie teasing impending doom. Characters are close to dying in event after event, but then they don't, but then they do, but in a surprising way, or it's an unexpected person that dies.

The comedic timing is impeccable, the deaths are overkill and overly complex in the campest ways, the plot (yes!) is creative and interesting.

Now I want to watch the previous five films! This sixth film was 100% possible to enjoy without them and they're all semi-independent, but this one is a celebration of all of them, supposedly chock full of references to them and is a soft reboot/retcon that ties them all together nicely.
