Floorp v12.9.0 Release Notes | Floorp Release Notes & Blog
Browser update. I'm on day three of using #Librewolf as my daily driver. I've not encountered any real issues. Their anti-fingerprinting removes the ability of website detecting that I use dark mode, but that is not a big deal and I can usually just set it manually on the website.
I'm ditching #Floorp as my secondary Firefox browser. From their social posts, they seem to not want to take stand against GenAI. As a replacement, I'm looking at #Waterfox via Flatpak.
Because I got red-pilled on Mastodon, I've now switched from #LibreWolf to #Floorp. Yes really, it's an actual thing.
It's more like vanilla firefox than Librewolf, less strident about privacy, which suits me, I ended up turning off a bunch of Librewolf settings because, for example I want my dark mode, even if it lets trackers fingerprint my browser.
Sync works with my #Mozilla account, so all the lumber I've been dragging around since I stopped using Netscape is still there, including passwords, bookmarks and addons. So switching was super easy.
It has built-in gestures which would be cool, but for the fact that they completely disable right-clicking anywhere in the app. So I've turned them off them and re-enabled my gestures add-on. Scratching my head about that one.
There's also a sidebar thingy, that I've also turned off, can't see the point of losing a bunch of real estate just so that some controls that you can access from the normal dropdown are visible all the time.
There's more scope for customisation which is nice, but it's a bit rough in places. I want the address bar and tab bar to autohide like it does on a mobile device, I can do the fomer, but the autohide tabs setting doesn't hide the tab bar, it just hides the names on the tabs which is useful how exactly?
Overall, it's basically #firefox with a silly name, and no fucking AI.
#FOSS
Everybody is criticizing Mozilla for the AI in Firefox
I agree
However, having a Mozilla account allows you to sync bookmarks between Librewolf/Waterfox/Zen/Floorp and in different devices
Any idea to do the same without it?

There is #librewolf and #floorp

@RABid @nixCraft as of right now, #Waterfox, #Zen, #Icecat, #Floorp, and #LibreWolf are all #LLM nonsense free. LibreWolf and IceCat are more or less guaranteed to stay that way because of the nature of the projects. Waterfox has made general rumblings about being anti AI, but haven't made a definitive response to #Firefox turning evil(er?), but I expect them to remain LLM free.
Floorp, and Zen are harder to predict, since those projects seem to be more UX focused than anything else, but as of right now, they're LMM free AFAIK.
On the #Chromium derivative side of things, #Vivaldi seems strongly anti LLM, #UngoogledChromium can probably be counted on, and… that's kinda it. Maybe #Brave. I'm sure there are others, or will be, but it's hard to call and starting from a Google code base isn't promising.
If you're on Linux/BSD, you can try Gnome Web (Epiphany) or Falkon; they might suit your needs. Palemoon might also work for you.
If you're on Windows or Mac, you've got bigger LLM problems than your browser.
@plwt I'm not using #Firefox because I don't approve of this foray into the latest environmentally destructive techbro craze. I don't want an AI browser. It's a ridiculous idea.
And "just don't use it" is… it's not enough, man. It needs to not be there in the first place. If you don't wanna move away from #Mozilla once again chasing trends instead of making a better browser, at least set up a user.js to disable all that shit.
If Mozilla comes to their senses and stops with this nonsense, I might come back. In the meantime, #Waterfox, #LibreWolf, #Zen, and #Floorp are all viable options.
