To explain why this is a policy failure.
As a transition measure, they should immediately fund the foodbanks for 100% of their needs, freeing private charity for things that aren't basic human needs and rights, and giving governments and voters an incentive to reduce the need for them to an emergency-only background level.

I grew up on Food Stamps, WIC, and other food aid, My mom worked full time, and still sometimes the only we could eat was these resources.
And cash. Cash is always helpful to Food Banks.
Thank you to Mustard Seed for allowing us free use of their commercial kitchens. Their distribution centre for their food bank operations is right next door to our office.

Went to a Second Harvest (local #sfba #SiliconValley food pantry nonprofit) fundraising event this morning, and I learned some interesting things today:
- 17% of people in Silicon Valley (#SantaClaraCounty & #SanMateoCounty) regularly need help with food, about 500,000 people per month.
- The discontinuation of SNAP has caused a surge of panic requests for food.
- There was a surge of donations just as SNAP ended, and Second Harvest was able to fund the additional requests.
It’s super heartening to see that residents of Silicon Valley rose to the challenge and more than made up the difference caused by the SNAP funding gap. It warms my heart.
I think it’s cool when the #grocerystore asks you to #donate to the #foodbank but also locks its dumpsters. It just makes sense.
You want my #money? You’re the ones that have all of the #food. Maybe me & the #grocery store could work together & figure out who is holding onto all of the food.

I know the health conscious are going to scream about high sodium & lack of fresh produce, but the underlying aim here is to provide individuals & families affordable options for meals when access to food is challenged due to cost, location and/or disability.
I think this is a great idea. It organizes meal prep by bundling ingredients just like the meal kit subscriptions.
