FosseryWeb progress report:
All Java cheatsheet pages are now generated using the new page-builders tool, to make the code more consistent, and also to test the tool, discover bugs, edge cases. HTML, CSS and JavaScript cheatsheets will also be regenerated, although the CSS ones have a bit more "unique" elements like images, figures consisting of HTML and CSS code, etc., will see if I can make those be generated with the tool, or if they will still require manual work.

And soon, FosseryWeb Min support will also be added, the script will generate the cheatsheet page for both sites in one go.

Last week I shared a survey, in which you could tell your opinion about FosseryWeb, and choose a feature/improvement you would like to see the most.

In case you missed it, you can still submit it: cryptpad.disroot.org/form/#/2/

Let's see the answers per question:

Which site do you use?

- Original FosseryWeb - 3 votes
- FosseryWeb Min - 1 vote

How often do you use it (approximately)?

- Daily - 0 votes
- Weekly - 1 vote
- Monthly - 1 vote
- Very rarely - 2 votes

Which feature do you use the most often?

- Password generator - 1 vote
- Username generator - 0 votes
- CSS code minifier - 0 votes
- Articles - 1 vote
- Quizzes - 1 vote
- Programming cheatsheets - 1 vote
- BrainlessGPT - 0 votes

Which new feature/improvement would you like to see the most?

- Randomized quiz questions for all quizes and better questions for Privacy quiz - 3 votes
- Java cheatsheets - 1 vote

The rest (Python and SQL cheatsheets, download all cheatsheets of a language, JS object and DOM maniplation cheatsheets, improved keyboard navigation and screen reader support) got 0 votes. I may or may not implement those. But if you would like to see those features/improvements too, you can drop a comment.
For now, I'll implement randomized quiz question and better Privacy quiz question first, then Java cheatsheets (you can write topics you would like to see covered, in comment).

What do you like the most about FosseryWeb?

- "The owner of the website." - Thanks, I appreciate it!
- "The quizzes, because they are fun :DD" - Glad you like them. They will become even more fun soon when questions will be randomized.

Do you have any concerns about the site (e.g. privacy, something not working as you would expect, etc.)?

- "Not really."
- "No, i love you Man 💛" - Love you too

Is there anything you dislike about the site?

- "No, definitely not!"
- "Why would there be?"

Anything else you wish to share?

- "Yes, I am a Saab J 35A fighter jet." - Good for you, I guess

FosseryWeb User Survey answers on CryptPad's interface

A new Timeline page got added to both FosseryWeb (fosseryweb.codeberg.page/timel) and FosseryWeb Min (fosseryweb-min.codeberg.page/t) where you can take a look at how these sites improved over time, and what are the future plans for the sites.

Speaking of plans, I just created a survey where you can tell your opinion about the site, and there's also a question, where you can choose a feature/improvement which you would like to see the most. You can also write your own idea, which I'll add to the answers, so others can vote to it. The more vote a feature/improvement gets, the sooner it will be implemented. Most questions are optional to answer.
cryptpad.disroot.org/form/#/2/
The survey is available via Disroot's CryptPad service. Here you can read Disroot's Privacy Policy before answering the survey: disroot.org/en/privacy_policy
I set the survey to allow both anonymous submissions and providing a username optionally, account creation is also optional.

I started to develop a minimal version of FosseryWeb 1-2 weeks ago, with the aim of Dillo and NetSurf compatibility, I just "finished" the site (in the sense that all articles and cheatsheets are available there).

In the beginning, it was a bit challenging to find ways to implement the planned design in a way that it isn't broken in the above mentioned browsers, but actually it was a fun challenge, it was a bit like a "don't use modern CSS features" challenge lol. I had to make some changes to the originally planned design to make it work, but hope you like it.

Besides the compatibility thing, I also made the site as lightweight as possible, by including only the necessary CSS styles for each page (mostly), and only include images where it's necessary (e.g. in a few cheatsheets).

If you noticed a bug or have any recommendation, feel free to drop a comment.

I'm aware of some article/cheatsheet download issues mentioned on the Known issues section of the About page (fosseryweb-min.codeberg.page/a), but I couldn't find a solution for those yet (some of those are browser-related, so I can't really do anything about them I guess). I could solve the Dillo issue by including Markdown files in zip, but even then, unzipping it is one extra step, so it wouldn't be any better than right clicking on the link imo.

JavaScript cheatsheets are now available on FosseryWeb Min:
fosseryweb-min.codeberg.page/c
(I know it's a bit ironic on a minimal JS-free site, I just thought I make these available on the Min site too, since I already made them for the original FosseryWeb earlier.)

As I said in my previous post, I'm starting a new minimal version of FosseryWeb, which will primarily be tested with Dillo and NetSurf to ensure compatibility with those browsers. I decided to call this new site FosseryWeb Min (FosseryWeb Minimal would be too long for header text lol), the site will be available here: fosseryweb-min.codeberg.page/ , its repo is accessible here: codeberg.org/FosseryWeb-Min/pa

As for design, the new site will have the same color scheme ("stolen" from the ZorinBlue-Dark theme of Zorin OS lol) as the original one, but the layout and design elements will be different, more minimalistic, with no images (except for some programming cheatsheet where they are part of the cheatsheet).

I created 2 sample designs, one for the menu pages, one for content pages.

(The design might change a bit, based on your feedback, or how I can get things to work properly in Dillo and NetSurf)

What do you think of this design? Feedbacks are welcome.

You may saw my post about developing a JavaScript-free FosseryWeb in Java + Spring. Well, I made that post more than a week ago, and I constantly worked on the new site since then on a daily basis (1-2 hours a day), but I barely made any progress because of random bugs popping up one after the other. Some related to Maven, some to JTE (which I didn't plan using originally, but I realized I'll need that too to create reusable page templates) some to running the compiled Jar with Tomcat, etc., once I solve an issue, I immediately face another.

(I also changed my IDE from Eclipse to IntelliJ IDEA Community Edition because I didn't really like how Eclipse handles workspaces.)

I'm not afraid of challenges, but dang, this starts to get really draining to say the least, especially when working on the project at evening after a tiring day of university studies.

Of course, programming is challenging, no one said it isn't, I experienced it quite a few times, but this is the first time that basically I can't show any progress even in the very beginning of a project for more than a week, and some thoughts popped into my head: is it really worth doing? Why didn't I go with Python + Django instead, which I already have some prior knowledge in, and are much easier? (I can hear Python haters yelling: BUT PYTHON IS BAD! IT'S SLOW AND BLOATED! - not that a Spring project isn't "bloated" when bundled with a Tomcat server and a few dependencies into a Jar archive, a simple Hello World project is around 20MB but whatever lol) But at the same time, I don't like to give things up, if there's a purpose to do it, I do it.

I won't give up, but I'll probably need some REST (ok that was a silly joke lol). I'll probably take a week off (or maybe a few months off until summer, will see). I'm not sure if this project will succeed in the long run, but I'll try my best.

I know it sounds like a lot of b*tching, but I like to be transparent about things, felt the need to tell why I didn't make any progress.
