Today we shine a light on a silent condition that affects millions: osteoporosis. One in 3 women and one in 5 men over 50 will suffer an osteoporotic fracture โ often after a minor fall or movement โ yet most cases go undiagnosed and untreated. The 2025 theme, "Itโs Unacceptable!", calls for urgent action: better awareness, earlier diagnosis, effective treatment and policies that protect bone health for everyone.

1. Move daily โ prioritize weight-bearing (walking, stair-climbing), resistance training and balance exercises to build and preserve bone strength.
2. Eat for your bones โ include calcium-rich foods (dairy, fortified plant milks, sardines), adequate protein, phosphorus, magnesium and vitamin K sources (leafy greens, beans, nuts).
3. Get vitamin D โ safe sun exposure plus supplements when needed; vitamin D improves calcium absorption.
4. Quit smoking and limit alcohol โ both raise fracture risk and impair bone recovery.
5. Know your risk โ family history, early menopause, low body weight, long-term steroid use and certain medical conditions increase risk. Talk to your healthcare provider about bone density testing (DEXA) if youโre at risk.
6. Follow treatment plans โ if diagnosed, adhere to prescribed therapies and seek a second opinion if uncertain.
