Wow, #SoftMakerOffice is really pleasant to work in, if you don't hate MS Office. I've used many of the major Linux-compatible office suites (LibreOffice, OpenOffice) and am impressed enough with SoftMaker that I upgraded from #FreeOffice to the paid version.
If you're used to MS Office, it's really easy to find your way around.
It isn't FOSS, but the fact that it has excellent Linux support makes it worthwhile for me.

@wanda23 Schau mal nach #SoftMakerOffice ein deutsches Unternehmen. Es gibt auch eine Freie Version, die sich #FreeOffice nennt.
Eine Alternative ist noch #LibreOffice. Es ist Kostenfrei und auch sehr gut. Finanzieren sich über Spenden.
Einige Entwickler von #LibreOffice kann ich noch sagen, haben sich irgendwann mal von #OnlyOffice abgespalten. Da OnlyOffice einen anderen weg eingeschlagen haben.

When saving a text file spreadsheet in #LibreCalc / #LibreOffice or #FreeOffice / #PlanMaker, is there a way to coerce it into not quoting the text fields?
Ordinarily I would want the text fields quoted, but not in this case.

SoftMaker FreeOffice 2024 Released
A new version of FreeOffice has been released. FreeOffice 2024 is a free (as in beer) version based on SoftMaker Office 2024, a commercial, cross-platform office suite. Any users of SoftMaker Office reading this needn’t feel short-changed: the free version comes with fewer features. The 3 core components in FreeOffice (TextMaker, PlanMaker, and Presentations) are also included in SoftMaker Office, and SoftMaker Office NX (a newer, subscription-based offering with AI integrations) but not all features are shared between them. However, all of the essentials one would need are present. What’s missing are the gimmicky end of things, e.g., AI/ML writing/translation, :sys_more_orange:

1. #LibreOffice / #Collabora Online
2. #SoftMaker #FreeOffice (Non FOSS)
3. #ONLYOFFICE
4. #WPSOffice (Non FOSS)
I think, we can safely remove Apache #OpenOffice and #Calligra from the list, since they are not really actively developed anymore. #CryptPad seems to have much less functionality.

@VerseAndVermin Thanks for the follow-up. I never used their cloud service (I generally prefer #gocryptfs or #cryfs encrypted volumes on providers like dropbox.
However, that does sound concerning - I'll avoid using them too - I liked that they were a very old player that was in the market since the #wordperfect days, but the times have changed.
Hopefully #freeoffice works better for you, though I've found myself liking #onlyoffice over freeoffice.
@VerseAndVermin that reminds me that #wpsoffice https://www.wps.com/ and #freeoffice https://www.freeoffice.com/en/ exist as pretty good alternatives to #msoffice (multi-platform), and if the #opensource #onlyoffice doesn't fit all your use cases you might want to give them a spin.
WPS Office was generally better/more powerful in my experience, with better support for unicode fonts, better spreadsheet power-user functionality, etc in my experience. Both are free for personal use.
Had a non-technical friend who I've helped stay on #ubuntu for around a year for his academic work complain that PowerPoint slides from his professor didn't render well in either #libreoffice #wpsoffice, #freeoffice .
I found that pretty surprising - I'd have expected slideshows to be the easier format, as document and spreadsheet compatibility seems to be much better now in 2023 than two decades ago!
@sindastra #onlyoffice or #softmaker #freeoffice might work, too.
