Well, learning #frenchhorn together with somebody certainly helps. This morning we solved a problem that my partner, who played in her youth, has been struggling with. She thought she played a F horn back then, but it turns out to have been a Bb horn. 😶 In her words, "suddenly everything is much easier".

That little detail unlocked stuff. Now she's confident enough to teach me finger positions & stuff, and today has been a joy. We've been taking turns playing melodies.

Scoring those "newbie gains" with the #frenchhorn. I'm now making those mid-staff C's sound alright, and the upper-staff F's no longer feel completely out of reach. They still sound forced, but hell, I'm getting there.

I'm getting the feeling that working myself up the staff is going to be the easy part though, and that the real work will be learning to hit those note with confidence and good intonation. 💀 #horn

Made a quick improvised #music composition for #FrenchHorn and #BlippooBox (in #VCVRack ) - some #NotBonkWave - or is it #BonkWave ? Certainly could be #HonkWave all made in #Bitwig - don't play too loud, the horn comes in pretty solidly.

I'm thinking of buying some #used #musical #instruments, if you know of any. Plz boost for reach (#Manhattan but will pay to ship). A #FrenchHorn (#single or #double), a #trumpet or #cornet w/ a #trigger or triggers (to #tune the 1st, 3rd #valve, see photo). Also a #tenor #sax (poss #soprano), a #clarinet (poss plastic), maybe a #flute. I had a Conn Constellation w/ a first valve trigger but it got #stolen in #Baltimore in the 80s & then I #sold my clarinet & flute to #move to #NYC in the 90s.
