The Daily Dread

Yesterday

I opened my eyes
There were two shoes on the step
Put on my shoes
Went to work
There were no shoes on the step
After the accident
For many mornings
I opened my eyes
Put on my shoe
Took my crutches
Went to work
There was one shoe on the step

Everythings withered
For no additional gain
Long cold nights ahead

letting the day gain
purchase on my attention
as dreams slink away

Only my inner thoughts to watch
As I swaddle into an evening swatch
Although I may be bone dead tired
Dawns on withering conscious frame
With nothing to lose and all to gain
Additional input may be required

A frog on a log
Obsessed on a midair fly
Ribbit Ribbit (slurp)

I could see him through the window. I still don’t know if he could see me. The time and place is fleeting. It’s just a shine of memory. I swear I heard the music, though could not then nor could I now identify. But it all returns. Not often, just on a tranquil evening sometimes. How we danced as two almost familiar.🪶

They were told to make a wish. None was promised to come true. Is there harm to wishing? asks one or maybe two. I wish I had an answer, says a voice from the misty blue.

We need a guide to help us here. We need a sign to tell us what to wish for and why, too. We’ve been told to wish for something but who’s the teller with authority to tell the told what to do?

They form a circle for a dance. They wish for wisdom. They wish for truth. They wish that peace had one more chance.🪶

They were told to make
a wish but their intentions
criss-crossed at crossroads

He tore a page from the book, running his fingertips across each line. Her memoir. The day they made love. The day she swore she would always be his. Always. Misty, he lingered, imagining her fingers penning those words. The fingers into which he mournfully slipped that very page. #FromOneLine

One poisoned pie in the mix, the tray stood on the table. The Gods leaned in to watch closer. Who would be the lucky one to dine at their table, tonight?

How did I miss the turning?

One moment, I was standing on the wet sand, breathing freely, and in the next, I find my self drowning in the crashing waves.

How did I miss the turning of the tides?

There were oranges in the fruit bowl, emitting a fragrance of happiness into a broken home.

Every day of her life was hell. It was hard to even find a reason to continue living.

But there were oranges in the fruit bowl.

There were oranges in the fruit bowl. Wrinkly skinned and far past appealing to anyone but the desperate or starving blind. Sun shone through four south facing windows, filtered by streaks of dust and debris allowed to settle in there. Too high on a wall above the only bookshelf, a clock tick ticked, oblivious that it was out of time.🪶
