Keep in mind: these are the same people who campaigned and solicited donations on the idea of Trump/MAGA doing fascism. On the idea of him executing Project 2025. Well, it’s happening. Now is the time for them to act. They’re intentionally failing an open book test.

People - the Constitution is a piece of paper which describes some very important but basic rules, but it's not MORE than that. It's not magic, it's not scripture.
We're rapidly approaching the point when saying "You can't do that! It's unconstitutional!" won't mean anything.
These systems only work because of an underlying agreement to play by these rules. That social contract is being shredded by MAGA. You (and the Dems) cannot act like normalcy is still a thing. It's not. It's gone. And it isn't coming back unless you FIGHT for it.
It's okay to grieve. But you absolutely cannot wait for others to save you/us.
I remain utterly unconvinced that the Dems will actually act like the opposition party they should be.
I'm not trying to be a doomer, but there's literally nothing in the last year - since at least the election, but really since Harris' poll numbers showed a Trump re-election was a real possibility - that tells me they can do it.
I mean... establishment Senate Dems backstabbed the House Dems in order to avoid a shutdown, what, six months ago? And that was in the halcyon days of DOGE, not our current shit show of American cities being invaded by our own military.
So, now that the Dems realize a shutdown was actually a viable strategy, it may be too late. Because compromising - kicking the can down the road - didn't do anything to slow him down, and we (the country as a whole) are in an even weaker position.
I've said all along that these people won't be who saves us. I meant it and mean it. It was never meant as a statement to crush hope, but to make anyone willing to listen that it will come down to US and that it will likely be violent and bloody.
Fascism isn't stopped by sternly written letters.

Imma let you all in on a little secret:
All of these “call your reps!” calls to action sicken me. Why? Because if it takes people pleading for you to spare them and their loved ones for you to even CONSIDER doing the right thing instead of (further) enabling the Nazis, that makes you a monster. Certainly fascist adjacent, at the very least.
Our reps shouldn’t need to be guilted or goaded into not doing evil. Yet, here we are.
We’re not talking tax rates or infrastructure spending here. We’re talking about the fundamental issues of who gets to live, and who will be forced to die.
It’s insulting to my very humanity.
I’m going to be lurking more than writing/interacting (at least, that’s the plan) for a bit because my mental health is currently about as bad as it was during the height of COVID.
Along those lines, I’ve gone back and read some of the (terrible) poetry/lyrics/whatever I wrote back in 2014, and found something I wrote in 2016 the day or day after Shitler won for the first time:
“I feel like an island adrift in a sea of sewage.”
Yup. The feeling persists. And it feels like the tide is rising.
