Well, it WAS a relaxing family weekend until this happens outside my house (not my house in the picture)
We’ve had about two weeks of rain which makes the ground soft. Also, wood isn’t the best material in warm wet weather. So “an ounce of caution is worth a pound of pain” however that goes.
Running on my 12v system until it’s fixed.
So we *have* a power grid, and we'll be paying for it for the remainder of my natural life and yours, but it can't do things like, you know, keep the airport running, or the hospitals.
I understand that keeping the power on up here in Adjuntas is fraught with risk; I grew up in the country, so power outages are nothing new to me. But in town? In town a functioning society is supposed to be able to keep the lights on.
Well, hey! The power is out again!

Our privatized, unethical power company is at it again in #PuertoRico. This time they created a commercial account in our name and dropped a nearly $6,000 bill on us out of nowhere; when we finally got access to this account, which we never set up and never received any paperwork or bills, it shows months last year of 0 power consumption followed by a race to make up for lost revenue by charging almost $700 in a subsequent month.

#LUMA has had a voltage imbalance since yesterday, so everything in the freezer has thawed. Fortunately no appliances damaged, and now that I've seen it's happening I've put the fridge on solar and we'll see if it maintains a proper temperature now (and if our battery capacity can handle the nights).
I swear. Just *one week* without something would be nice.
It rained yesterday, and power outages are being reported today. I'm so happy privatization has fixed all our electric problems. Oh, wait, no, the other thing - *exacerbated* our electric problems, that's right.
Fortunately, my #solar system is nearing production-readiness. The house is currently running on solar through extension cords. As long as I don't use the microwave or power tools and my son doesn't turn *his* desktop on, I can meet my deadline and not lose any frozen food today.

@dbinkowski That's not incompetence - that's planned. The more catastrophic they can paint the grid, the more disaster funds they can get from Congress, and the greater their profits.
They have *no motivation whatsoever* to provide reliable electrical service. Quite the contrary.

The colonial oversight board of #PuertoRico, now that the privatization of the power grid's profit is contractually fixed for 15 years, has resolved to pay down the debt by charging the public a debt-service fee of $13 a month plus 3 cents a kWh - on top of what is already one of the most expensive power bills in the United States.
