A fringed pagoda (my guess, not a specialist) peeking through the evening mist. This tree's bark can protect it against wildfires that are common in fynbos regions. Might also be the reason it's missing most its leaves.

The Cape Peninsula in South Africa is a global biodiversity hotspot, home to the world’s highest density of tortoises, over 250 bird species, and around 9,000 plant species—69% of which are endemic. Despite covering less than 0.5% of Africa, it holds nearly 20% of the continent’s flora, with 1,736 plant species threatened and 3,087 of conservation concern.

Although I saw 35 ‘lifers’ today, 1 stopped me in my tracks - the Orange-breasted Sunbird. Wow such colours. The young Boomslang snake was a good spot too.

#Serruria furcellata, the Kraaifontein spiderhead, is a flower-bearing shrub that belongs to the genus Serruria and forms part of the #fynbos. The plant is native to the #WesternCape, specifically found in Brackenfell, Kraaifontein and Kuils River.

This bit of paradise sits on the edge of the City of Cape Town metro area.

A massive fire tore through here a few years ago, but the fynbos is doing what fynbos does: regenerating spectacularly.
