US Justice Department's voter information lawsuit dismissed by Georgia judge

U.S. District Judge Ashley Royal found the government should have sued Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger in Atlanta, and not in a separate federal judicial district in Macon, where the secretary of state also has an office.

Royal dismissed the lawsuit without prejudice, meaning the Justice Department can refile it.

Gabriele Immenkeppel berichtet im von der Rheinischen-Post-Verlagsgruppe digital zugemauerten lokalen Monopolblatt (lediglich ein Drittel der Bonner*innen kauft, wie viele von ihnen lesen es?) über die allgemein bedauerte Schliessung des “Weinkonzepts” in der Friedrich-Breuer-Str. Wie immer wird die Gelegenheit genutzt, diesmal von dem Sozialdemokraten und Sprecher der Gewerbegemeinschaft Dieter Schaper, die angeblich fehlenden Parkplätze wieder aufzuwärmen. In diesem Fall besonders schlechtes Beispiel.

Denn “schwer erreichbar” war das “Weinkonzept” ganz offensichtlich nicht. Das war ja eher das Problem. Zu den abendlichen Öffnungszeiten war es an den Öffnungstagen nämlich nahezu komplett ausgebucht. Eine Platzreservierung mit weniger als einer Woche Vorlauf war weitgehend aussichtslos. Und nunja, wer Wein trinkt, was ja das Zentrum der guten Geschäftsidee war, sollte sowieso nicht ins Auto steigen …

Nach meiner Kenntnis gab es zwei zentrale Probleme. Zum einen haben die Betreiber*innen ihre Kostenbelastung unterschätzt. Zum andern mussten sie schon um 22 h schliessen. Also immer dann, wenn der Abend gerade beginnt, amüsant zu werden. Besonders im Sommer, wenn es noch garnicht dunkel ist, gibt es nicht viele Gäste, die dafür Verständnis aufbringen.

Das war aber, so hörte ich von Stammgästen, eine Vermietungsauflage. Das wirft nicht die Frage nach Parkplätzen, sondern nach Immobilienbesitz und -verfügungsgewalt auf. Ebenfalls eine zutiefst politische Frage, an die sich aber nach meiner Kenntnis keine demokratische Partei heranwagt. Wohnungssuchende wissen, was ich meine. Und “inhabergeführter” Einzelhandel/Gastronomie überlebt die tödliche Amazonisierung heute sowieso nur, wenn ihm die Bude selbst gehört. Kapitalistisch, tragisch, aber wahr.

Manche fürchten hier neuen Stress für die Brotfabrik, wenn ein profitsüchtiger Investor auf das Gelände der Post in der Kreuzstrasse lukrative teure Eigentumswohnungen platziert, mit “Südbalkonen” exakt über dieser Brotfabrik, deren konfliktfreudige Eigner*innen anschliessend über Lärmemissionen klagen werden. Exakt der Konflikt, den das “Weinkonzept” nun auch nicht ausgehalten hat.

Und wenn Sie Parkplätze suchen: weder die Tiefgarage im Brückenforum noch die unter dem Rathaus ist überfüllt. Autofahren kostet nun mal Geld, insbesondere auch die, die gar keins haben.

Atlanta victory! 61 charges dismissed in the Cop City RICO case

Atlanta, GA – On Tuesday, December 30, after two years of local pressure and national support, a Georgia judge issued an order dismissing RICO charges against 61 activists who protested the construction of Cop City.

The ruling comes just months after the charges of three activists wrongfully charged with money laundering in connection to the administration of the Atlanta Solidarity bail funds in 2024 were also dropped due to a flimsy legal argument and increasing pressure from the community.
