#HowTo use 2 separate camera apps on #Android depending on if the phone is locked or not.

For the advanced hardware usage and mainly #jpegli compression I use #GoogleCamera on #GrapheneOS.

But that camera is very bloated and exposes a ton of attack surface that way.

Android asks twice which camera app to open when pressing the "double power button" shortcut, when locked and when unlocked. So you can set 2 different apps there.

This is not exposed in the settings and the dialog only appears after installing or uninstalling one of the possible camera apps.

As I had set #GCam as default apps on both invoking methods before, I quickly install #FossifyCamera, turn of the display, use the shortcut.

Android asks to unlock the screen, then the selection dialog appears.

I uninstall FossifyCamera again and do the same, dialog appears again, I select #GrapheneOSCamera there.

Done! Attack surface when screen is locked reduced.

⚠️ PSA for those using the #GoogleCamera alias #GCam:

Starting with version 10 the GCam no longer works without Play Services installed. Latest version known to be working without them is 9.9.

If you are affected by this and don't want to get the update by accident you should blacklist the app in your app store such as #AuroraStore.

¿Voy a usar las cosas de IA que tiene el móvil? Seguramente no. ¿Las he usado para probarlo? Por supuesto.

Lo que sí he hecho es desactivar Gemini como asistente por defecto. Uso el asistente en mi Pixel Watch* (es realmente cómodo para poner alarmas y recordatorios) y mi sorpresa fue mayúscula cuando vi que Gemini invadió mi reloj. No me habría importado tanto si no llega a ser porque Gemini tarda mucho más en responder a lo que le pido que lo que tardaba el Asistente de Google "de toda la vida" (con el mayor consumo en la nube que eso conlleva y que el propio Gemini me reconoció).

He visto que Google ha sacado algo llamado Gemini Nano que viene a ser un LLM similar a Gemini pero que funciona en local. Pues mira, mejor que sigan por ahí, pero, de momento, tampoco lo necesito.

*Sí, también pasé por el aro cuando se murió mi Pebble.
