Am Samstag soll mal wieder #Geotop Schutz anstehen.
Das doofe: zur Einsatzstelle muss man 12 Meter schwimmen. Auf dem Foto ist der Beginn der Schwimmstrecke. Bei Trockenheit ist der Wasserstand so niedrig, dass man bequem auf dem Rücken dahin schwimmen kann.
Ist aber kein Niedrigwasser mehr ...

Joshua Davies spoke today on linking the Central Atlantic magmatic province (CAMP) with the end of the Triassic extinction. Isotopes and trace elements suggest that it wasn't the lava directly but the cooked carbon-rich sediments that did the damage.

A very cool talk this week at GEOTOP by André Pellerin, University of Quebc at Rimouski. He spoke on the strange chemistry and biology of Lake Untersee, east Antarctica. This lake is perpetually ice-covered and the bottom covered with #stromatolites (microbial mats) similar to those found in ecosystems three billion years in Earth's past.

Geotop je základní geologická jednotka, která může být zároveň i biotopem a zároveň je vědecky i geoturisticky významnou lokalitou. Příkladem může být jeskyně, vulkanický kráter, bludný balvan, skalní výchoz a další.
