Lukewarm Take: The advice in #KennyRogers #Gambler is pretty useless. HOW do you know when to hold 'em and when to fold 'em? Knowing you need to know this isn't useful; that's obvious. The titular Gambler did not say how to know these things, what signs to look for, how to count cards, how to recognize a tell, etc.
Since he received payment (in the form of whiskey) and did not provide the service he had promised, the song should have been called "The Con Man".
But it is still a classic song. No denying that.
EDIT: I suppose I must note the Gambler merely promised "some advice", with no guarantees of utility or of what form that advice would take. So, technically, he did fulfill the terms of the contract.
