The Victorian Government is set to introduce major gambling reforms during the final sitting week of the year. These changes will cap poker machine deposits at $100 (down from $1,000) and implement Australia’s strongest anti-money laundering and gambling harm prevention measures. #GamblingReform #Victoria #PokerMachineReform #bravo

@Susan60 It's interesting to see that the list includes two former prime ministers who didn't take action on gambling reforms during their time in office. The power of the Australian gambling lobby is so strong that no sitting prime minister dares to challenge them, yet they call for reforms once they've left office. #GamblingReform #Politics #Australia #LobbyingPower #ChangeNeeded #Auspol

Instead of taking a strong stand to restrict gambling marketing, some sporting codes have continued to normalise the promotion of gambling products.

Gambling and sporting bodies should play no part in decisions about keeping young people and the community safe from this predatory industry.

NSW Labor leader Chris Minns faces a high-profile challenge in his marginal seat of Kogarah from gaming industry whistleblower Troy Stolz, who says he is contesting the March election to highlight his opponent’s failure to back poker machine reform. (SMH, 12 Jan 2023)

#labor needs to understand #GamblingReform is important to voters

At present, Minns refuses to act - WHY? Who is he encumbered to?

NSW Labor being left behind.

“The NSW union movement has a proud history of standing up for all working people. We have a rare chance at bipartisanship which will overwhelm the club lobby’s deceitful tactics of threatening jobs and communities to kill reform.”

The SMH reports today that there’s been an increase in applications for pokies to be able to be played between midnight & 4am. The evidence tells us this is the worst time for problem gamblers.

Councillor Pauline Lockie - Inner West Council and I called for poker machines to be shut down between midnight and 6am in our motion to Inner West Council last month but this and other evidence based reforms were rejected by Labor Councillors.

Chris Minns & NSW Labor should show some strength of character & stand up to Clubs NSW and the RSL & Services Clubs Association. The community wants reform and the Greens have pointed the way here: Cate Faehrman.org/pokies
