Saw a gorgeous jay today, but a bit disappointed its name is Jay and nothing else. Garrulus glandarius is a bit snazzier. Crappy photo because I only had my iPhone handy and not my camera. The azure blue spot on the wing close to the body does it for me. The apparent beige body gives lots of reddish tints and the black bits on the tail are just right. This bird slays. #birdstodon #birds #garrulusglandarius

Another day in the goshawk forest. I followed a pair Eurasian jays go about their day. They moved in the trees and seemed to pull snacks out of nowhere – probably food they had cached earlier. Surprisingly, they mimicked goshawk calls. And since they spoke of their devil, it did appear a while later.

A passerby told me he had seen the goshawk pair mating in the morning while the female was eating a squirrel. Huh, they are early...

Finally, I noticed that there were still a few hardy lingonberries on the ground. The berries keep well. The setting sun lit them and the surrounding heathers beautifully.
