It's fun to play around with short code and see what variety you can get out of a relatively simple system. I managed to keep the functions and format of the previous sketches, though this one isn't animated. I know a lot of #p5js sizecoding techniques, so I could have crammed a lot more in, but this seemed like a nice balance.

The astroid is formed by scaling the circles larger in one direction, and down in the perpendicular direction. Each step has two circles being scaled in opposite manners. They are rotated using a smooth noise function, and sometimes translated as well. Dots are added to the circles to provide some added detail. I'm liking this custom palette I made, so I think I'll keep experimenting with it. It seems to work well when things are slightly transparent as here.
