#GetOutside

Just now returned from spending several days in Western Massachusetts. Such a beautiful area! On one of my hikes, I crossed over several picturesque streams. Each one had a wooden footbridge like this. No need to rock hop here! #FootpathFriday #mountains #hiking

Photo looking upstream of a stream with a footbridge crossing it. The bridge seems relatively new, as the wood is not yet stained from the weather. The stream is in a beautiful green forested area and has many large boulders. The foreground of the stream is somewhat reflective and there is a small cascading waterfall seen beyond the bridge.

Good day!

Reviewing Book2 (about 33% of the way in a day). My editing skills had obviously improved by Book3.

So, more of doing that on a mild day, my windows at last open. I’ll walk, do some cleaning.

An outing is planned for the 7th, & another hike will happen soon.

Be everwell.

A wide (too wide) trail winds around tree in a pine forest where there’s minimal brush and the grass is green. The trail is tinted a reddish brown from the needles the larch trees shed the autumn before. The sky that’s barely visible through the branches is blue.

Knocking about the south this week, clamming, and stuff.

Woman with long brown hair walking away from the camera down a path in tge forest covered by grass and small white and pink flowers.A large bald eagle unhappy at the presence of another on a mudflat approaches it with head down. The second eagle, a bit smaller, lifts its wings to fly away. Both have the characteristic white heads and tails, both large and otherwise black burds.Fifteen golden -shelled razor clams in a tidal puddle, with a short handled shovel used to dig them across the top of the photo. If you look closely you can see two of them are digging into the sand to escape. They are a pretty bivalve, oblong from 3-6 inches and you can see their white mantles and siphons.A thick patch of typical Northwest coastal ground covers, mostly wood sorrel shaped sort of like clover but much larger, with a few leaves of wild ginger mixed in, with large heart-shaped leaves. Very green all of it.

Good day!

Heading into the forest. Let the adventure begin…

So began my last hike.

Time to shift my attention to Book2, A River in Each Hand, & preparing it for publication.

Because Book3 is a prequel, it served as the perfect lead-in to Book2 (& Books 1,4,5).

I’m so ready to do this.

Be everwell.

A narrow trail crosses a grassy meadow and disappears into evergreen forest, the trees widely spaced, but becoming more dense in the distance. The vividly blue sky is partly cloudy.

Well, hello! Does this mean spring is making a go of it?

Chilly run but spotted the first daffodils of the year.

Happy #WaterfallWednesday! I took a short hike to this beautiful #waterfall today in Western Massachusetts. This was part of several short hikes sampling this part of the state. Had a great time! #waterfalls #mountains #hiking

May your path be lined with wild ginger and sword ferns.

Faint foot path lined with western wild ginger, Asarum caudatum, a native Northwest ground cover with pretty bright green heart-shaped leaves, and on either side large clumps of sword ferns.

Good day!

And so it ends…

The month, that is.

I’ll complete the last of the Book3 read-thru today after my walk, & after editing my blog post.

Then, I’ll quickly catch up on neglected tasks before returning to Book2, which I’ll stay with to publication.

Be everwell.

This is the story of the erosion battle in the Rockies. To fight it, the forest service places barriers to channel rainwater.

Then, mountain bikers go around it, creating a new trail and, eventually, a new channel. There are trail channels the bikes have cut that are absurdly deep.

To be fair, I’ve seen lazy hikers go around it, too, rather than step over it.

Amidst lightly forested terrain, a plastic barrier for channeling runoff appears absurdly out of place to the left of the trail.

Good day!

Yesterday, I went exploring. Literally. At each juncture, I took the trail least traveled. What an amazing experience!

About 50F/10C, slight breeze, sunny. I topped a ridge & witnessed a snowstorm on Lolo Peak.

Spring has sprung & it was a great day!

Be everwell.

Just been for a hike up to the Wenallt woods where the #bluebells are doing their thing.
I can’t believe how lucky I’ve been with the weather during my time off. This the last week or so of freedom and I’m determined to continue to #GetOutside as much as possible. So fortunate to have this on the proverbial doorstep.

1/5 Mishap in the Mountains.

What was one of your mishaps this past (or previous) year? Here is one of mine:

Timberrrr!!! (that goes for both the tree and me!) Earlier this year, while snowshoeing alone down a mountain, I had to squeeze by a full-sized tree (about 12" (30cm) diameter) on a narrow section of trail that traversed a moderately steep slope. (CONT)
