Depictions of Blessed Gezelinus of Schlebusch (12th century) as a figure and in a stained glass window in the parish church of St. Andreas in Leverkusen-Schlebusch. According to legend, Gezelinus was born in the Duchy of Burgundy. Due to his desire to ‘renounce all wealth and honours for the love of Christ,’ he entered the Cistercian monastery as a lay brother in his youth and took on the task of a shepherd.

The shrine containing the relics of Blessed Gezelinus of Schlebusch (12th century) in the parish church of St. Andreas in Leverkusen-Schlebusch. Gezelinus enjoyed regional veneration. According to legend, one of his miracles was to have created a spring by thrusting his crook into the ground and saying a prayer when asked to do so by people during a long period of drought. Many people still fetch water in large containers from the Gezelin spring, which is said to have healing properties.
