#Ghostsign

@FallsMom @thisismyglasgow Not really, it's a bit high up and obscured by the adjacent building. And it would be a shame to cover up a #ghostsign

A faded ghost sign the side of a building on Sauchiehall Street in Glasgow. I can't quite make out the first, but lower down it says: carpets, curtains, drapes, etc. Durable and inexpensive.

Round the corner from me in Dronfield, Cooplands (a bakery) closed down, and removed their sign. To reveal another bakery sign behind it, which looks very 1970s (though I don't know).

Picture of a disused shop front. Above a large glass window the framing for the shop sign has been revealed. But behind _that_ is an older sign, in white lettering on blue acrylic. "slacks / Bakers & Confectioners". "Slacks" is in one of those Bauhaus / pump / Burko fonts; "Bakers & Confectioners" is in Helvetica

I love the font on these Bournville Cocoa signs on Nicolls Gallery on Dumbarton Road in the Thornwood area of Glasgow. I'm presuming they date from around 1900, when the shop started its life as a tobacconist and confectioners.

Love this ghost sign painted on a wall beside the entrance to a tenement on West Princes Street in the Woodlands area of Glasgow. It's repeated again on the neighbouring close as well. They're right next to a former military drill hall, and I wonder if the warning is related to its presence. There is a certain irony to having a sign written on a wall which says that writing on walls is not allowed!

The former bonded warehouse for Red Hackle Whisky on Otago Street in Glasgow. Self-styled as 'Scotland's Best Whisky' Red Hackle was established in 1920 by Charles Hepburn and Herbert Ross, two former soldiers and it was named after the distinctive red feather worn by members of the Black Watch. You can just about still make out the words Red Hackle on the faded advertisement for the whisky on the building's gable end.

Old Rely-A-Bell burglar alarm box on Great George Street in the West End of in Glasgow. First created around 1904, Rely-A-Bell burglar alarms were initially manufactured by the London ironmonger Thomas Gunn. It was spun off into its own company, the Rely-a-Bell Burglar and Fire Alarm Company Limited, in 1921. It's believed to be the oldest burglar alarm company in the UK.
