All in a Knight's Work Review by Andrew Hamilton
A curious release, since most of the tracks appeared on previous albums and Motown had just released a greatest-hits LP on them, which is essentially what this is. They resurrected their pre-Motown hits "Letter Full of Tears" and "Giving Up," tunes they had remade on earlier Motown albums. Remakes of "Fever," "Glory of Love," and Aretha's "Dr. Feelgood" are pleasing renditions. They even included "I Heard It Through the Grapevine," the stomping "End of Our Road," and the guitar-enhanced, lilting "Everybody Needs Love." No singles were released, so it went unnoticed, failing to even chart.
"I Heard It Through the Grapevine" is a song written by #NormanWhitfield and #BarrettStrong for #MotownRecords in 1966. The first recording of the song to be released was produced by Whitfield for #GladysKnightAndThePips and released as a single in September 1967. It went to number one on the #Billboard #RAndB Singles chart and number two on the Billboard #PopSingles chart and shortly became the biggest selling Motown single up to that time.

Silk n'Soul by Gladys Knight and the Pips from 1968
Top remakes of existing hits by other Tamla-Motown artists. The version of Brenda Holloway's "Every Little Bit Hurts" is a particular highlight.

Feelin' Bluesy by Gladys Knight & the Pips, released on Motown in 1968, is an unjustly neglected classic from their tenure at the label.
