Wisp does not support WebSockets (yet). Lustre’s SSR uses Misp directly. To use Wisp—which comes with many convenient tools for web development, such as cookies and middleware—I need to run a Wisp-based web service on one port and a WebSocket-dedicated service on a different port using Misp. That’s annoying.

I don't have a strong opinion on if you should use braces:
fn my_func() { … }
or blocks:
fn myfunc() … end
for defining blocks in your programming language, but I have a very strong opinion that if you use braces for blocks then you should not use braces for anything else.

Why? Because block scope ought to be easy to differentiate from everything else. This is especially important with when passing anonymous functions around.

I currently have some availability for an additional freelance client.

I've been doing #ruby since 2004 or so, and #rails since v1.

I'm also reasonably competent in #JS/#TS (more BE than FE), #python, and #go. If FP is your thing, I can do #elixir, #gleam, or #ocaml, though of the three, I only used Elixir (Phoenix) in production.

All that said, almost all of my recent contracts were for Fractional CTO/Engineering Lead roles.

I've rejoined the Fediverse. I've been here on and off since the beginning, so I'm familiar with how things work, but I've just moved over from my Mastodon instance to my new GoToSocial instance.

I love popular culture, reading books, watching movies, and occasionally playing video games, mostly on the Nintendo Switch 2. I also do photography but rarely share my pictures online, though I have a Flickr account. I have one cat.

I'm currently reading: Robin Hobb's works. Previously, I've read: Terry Pratchett, Brandon Sanderson, and Kurt Vonnegut.
