Hockey truly has become a global game.

The IIHF system is not perfect, but it is impressive to see how many nations are currently participating in IIHF's "World Championship System."

A quick trip to the IIHF's home page also reveals many additional nations that are members and play in their "regional tournaments" (Asian Games, African Nations Cup, etc.) but lack the means to participate in the global tournaments for now.

The money raised in the annual "World Championships Elite Division" help IIHF support these "smaller" nations build their programs and add new nations to the global hockey community to have hockey in places I would never have dreamt of having programs in when I was a kid.

It's amazing what we can achieve with enthusiasm and a little cooperation.
