Voilà deux ans que je voulais voir le film islandais Godland sélectionné à Un Certain Regard 2022. J'hésitais car j'avais peur qu'il soit magnifique mais long et chiant et on l'a enfin vu ce soir. C'était magnifique mais long et chiant.

Την είδα πριν καμιά εβδομάδα και την προτείνω ανεπιφύλακτα ειδικά αν ψάχνετε ταινία με αριστουργηματική φωτογραφία.

🇩🇰🇮🇸 Στο τέλος του 19ου αιώνα, ένας νεαρός Δανός ιερέας ταξιδεύει σε μια απομακρυσμένη περιοχή της Ισλανδίας (μέρος τότε της Δανίας) με στόχο να χτίσει μια εκκλησία, αλλά και να απαθανατίσει φωτογραφικά τους κατοίκους της για πρώτη φορά.
Ωστόσο, όσο προχωράει μέσα στο δύσβατο, αφιλόξενο τοπίο, τόσο απομακρύνεται από τον σκοπό του, την αποστολή του και τις βεβαιότητες που ως τότε ακολουθούσε.

Just watched #Godland, still processing it, which is usually a good sign I liked it. A priest goes to a place, is is twisted and corrupted by the place, then becomes part of the place; the entirety of the film is the juxtaposition of terrible beauty in all its shapes and forms. This film is an absolute masterpiece. I haven’t witnessed this level of story telling it’s been a very long time. Certain sequences in the film have taken over 2 years to complete. The director is also a visual artist which makes great a difference. Camera work is superb. So is the editing. Hoy me he puesto #Godland y es una pasada a nivel visual.
Los paisajes islandeses parecen tener un cometido (diría incluso poético) en la historia de un sacerdote del s.XIX cuya misión es evangelizar una parte del país.
Mientras se muestra como la isla y sus gentes van haciendo mella en el protagonista, se habla de fe, colonialismo, naturaleza humana y deseo.
El ritmo es lento y me ha faltado encontrar un hilo conductor en la historia... Aún así, verla es toda una experiencia.

Gisteren Godland bekeken, Deens-IJslandse film over een Deense dominee die in de 19de eeuw naar IJsland reist. Prachtige beelden, mooi verhaal. #kijktip #godland

Vanmiddag de film #godland gaan zien in #filmhuisgouda. Een lange zit en wat een deprimerende film. Bij sommige films zitten beelden het verhaal in de weg. Bij godland is het andersom. En de beelden zijn vooral traag, koud, en grijs. Geen idee of daarmee #IJsland recht wordt gedaan maar als deze beelden maatgevend zijn hoef ik er niet heen. In ieder geval niet met deze mensen.
