This piece was made in 2020. Inspired by exotic temples and sci-fi structures. As much as possible the proportions of the sculpture were designed within the golden ratio.

A Spiraling Staircase to the Sky

Looking up from the base of the tower, I couldn’t resist capturing this perfect counter-clockwise spiral (clockwise from this perspective)— a design that would’ve made Leonardo of Pisa, better known as Fibonacci, smile. Geometry and nature often speak the same language, and this staircase seemed to echo that universal rhythm.

Taken with the Canon 5DsR and Sigma 24-70 Art, the composition builds on simplicity: steel beams spiraling upward, holding wooden steps that catch the morning light. The hazy autumn sky added that subtle blue-green tint — a result of sunlight scattering through fine moisture and dust particles.

Sometimes, the most fascinating patterns aren’t found in forests or fields, but in the engineered forms we create. Photography, after all, is just another way of studying light and life.

Hello Mathstodon community.

I'm an independent researcher from a systems design background, and I'm exploring the geometry of a specific golden disphenoid I call 'ANNA'.

It's a Tetrahedron composed of 4 congruent 36-72-72 Golden Triangles.

My key finding is that it possesses a pair of opposite edges that are perfectly orthogonal.

To verify this beyond numerical approximation, I wrote a `sympy` script that defines the vertices symbolically using φ. The script computes the dot product of the opposite edge vectors, and `sympy.simplify()` reduces it to exactly 0.

My question: Is this orthogonality a known property of this solid? I'm posting the (short) symbolic script in the reply.

This tessellation is based on a partition of a Kepler triangle into four similar triangles (two direct and two mirrored). It is interesting that when triangles of same chirality are equally coloured it seems to show 0s and 2s. It is also interesting when just the hypotenuses are drawn.

Probably inspired by being in the mathstodon.xyz instance, I have just published my first entry into the Online Encyclopedia of Integer Series (OEIS), with a series a(n) that represents the number of decimal digits required to to represent Fibonacci(2^n). I have learned a lot thanks to all the OEIS reviewers, including numerical approximations, limits of several software packages, and more.
