This is
#Goldi the
#SilkyRooster that was a nice boss for a little while He was the weakest of the first three Silkies (all roosters!) that we every hatched. A friend took two of the roosters for us. They lived with all his chickens for a few months before people at them. Goldi was a pretty nice with all the Silky (and Nagoya Cochin too for a while) babies that came along later. But he was aggressive as a boss. I had a good time dancing with him but he scared and surprised other people Sometimes he'd suprise me too with a jumping flurry of kicks to the head, taking my hat off, or to the ankle drawing blood. At time like that you have to be careful not to damage anything. Goldi and his vice-boss pear kept a new rooster out of the group for weeks, but something happened to make the afraid of the new guy they used to bloody and keep in the bushes before... It's nice that none of the roosters attack people anymore but Goldi has seemed depressed or something lately. He hasn't been controlling his mites, he wasn't crowing for a while, he seemed lethargic. A young rooster that looked a lot like him, got lethargic like that and then just died. Goldi tried to help him along while the sick roosters peers some to sit by and commiserate. I'm starting to wonder if roosters can sufffer from depression. He seems to be getting better, he may have just needed some attention and affection. I hand-feed him hemp-seeds hoping it will help him with feather- and skin-hygiene. Mio gave him a bath... I had some photos from the 16th of Goldi on the bench by the front door that I never got around to posting so I'm throwing them in here too. The old close-ups of his head might have turned out better.
