Google zrobiło dziś coś, czego niewielu się spodziewało: na Pixelach 10 uruchamia się właśnie funkcja, która pozwala bezpośrednio udostępniać pliki między Androidem a iOS za pomocą dobrze znanego Quick Share i… AirDrop. Tak, dokładnie – Pixel 10 może teraz wysłać plik na iPhone’a i odwrotnie, bez żadnych mostków, aplikacji pośrednich czy kombinowania z chmurami.
Piekło zamarzło, ale proces rozmrażania wygląda na stopniowy. U mnie – na Pixelu 10 Pro XL – funkcji jeszcze nie ma, choć według Google właśnie trwa jej roll-out. Wszystko wskazuje na to, że aktualizacja pojawia się falami i część użytkowników będzie musiała uzbroić się w odrobinę cierpliwości.
Jak to działa
Nowa funkcja jest dostarczana jako aktualizacja „Quick Share Extension” w Sklepie Play. Po jej pobraniu konieczny jest restart telefonu – inaczej opcja wymiany plików z urządzeniami Apple się nie aktywuje.
Po stronie iPhone’a lub iPada wymagania są równie proste, choć mniej eleganckie: AirDrop musi być ustawiony w trybie „Everyone” (czyli „Wszyscy”), i to na 10-minutowe okno czasowe, które Apple obecnie narzuca. Po włączeniu tej opcji urządzenia zaczynają się widzieć nawzajem – Pixel pokazuje iPhone’a jako potencjalnego odbiorcę, a iPhone może wysłać plik bezpośrednio na Pixel 10.
Na razie działa to wyłącznie w serii Pixel 10, co obejmuje modele 10, 10 Pro i 10 Pro XL, a także prawdopodobnie Pixel Fold. Google oficjalnie zapowiada, że wsparcie pojawi się szerzej, ale bez szczegółów.
Pierwsze wrażenia i ograniczenia
W teorii – rewelacja. W praktyce – nie wszystkim ruszyło. Reddit pęka od komentarzy użytkowników, którzy widzą co najwyżej zmianę w opisie aplikacji, ale samej funkcji jeszcze nie uświadczyli. To typowy dla Google proces wdrażania „roll-outu”, gdzie część regionów dostaje nowości szybciej, inni znacznie później.
Są też ograniczenia techniczne. Apple wymaga wspomnianego trybu „Everyone”, który nie jest najbardziej bezpiecznym wariantem AirDropa. To oznacza, że pełna integracja z trybem „Contacts Only” jeszcze nie istnieje – przynajmniej nie w tej wersji funkcji. Nie ma też pewności, jak szybko i czy w ogóle trafi to na starsze Pixele albo inne smartfony z Androidem.
Dlaczego to ważne
To pierwszy raz, kiedy udostępnianie plików między Androidem a iOS działa w tak bezpośredni i natywny sposób. Po latach, w których AirDrop i Androidowe rozwiązania żyły w oddzielnych światach, mając ze sobą tyle wspólnego, co Windows z macOS w 2002 roku, nagle pojawia się realna interoperacyjność.
Dla wielu osób – szczególnie w gospodarstwach, gdzie mieszają się ekosystemy – może to być ogromne ułatwienie. Dla Google to także jasny sygnał, że firma zaczyna grać znacznie bardziej otwarcie.
Czy Apple pójdzie za ciosem i jeszcze bardziej poluzuje AirDropa? Czy Google udostępni nowość na wszystkie nowsze urządzenia z Androidem? Tego jeszcze nie wiemy, ale jedno jest pewne: granica między ekosystemami właśnie stała się cieńsza niż kiedykolwiek.
