Netflix ha actualizado silenciosamente su página de soporte para eliminar la compatibilidad con la función Cast de su aplicación móvil en televisores y dispositivos de streaming recientes. La plataforma está obligando a los usuarios de dispositivos nuevos a utilizar exclusivamente la aplicación nativa en sus televisores, un cambio que genera frustración en la comunidad (Fuente Soporte Netflix).
En un movimiento que ha generado descontento entre su base de usuarios, Netflix está eliminando la posibilidad de enviar contenido (castear) desde su aplicación móvil a smart TVs y reproductores de streaming más recientes. La decisión se aplicará independientemente del plan de suscripción del usuario.
La función Cast (que permite enviar un programa desde el teléfono a la pantalla grande, utilizada principalmente con Chromecast y Google TV) está desapareciendo del botón en la aplicación móvil de Netflix para los dispositivos modernos que ya cuentan con una aplicación nativa de Netflix. La opción, sin embargo, parece seguir estando disponible en modelos de Chromecast y televisores antiguos que no poseen una app nativa dedicada.
Aunque la medida es frustrante para los usuarios que prefieren la comodidad del teléfono para navegar y controlar la reproducción, el cambio responde a objetivos claros de la compañía:
- Mejor Experiencia y Estabilidad: Al forzar el uso de la aplicación nativa, Netflix obtiene un control más granular sobre la velocidad de bitrate y el uso de códecs (como AV1), lo que resulta en una reproducción más estable y de mayor calidad.
- Seguridad y Análisis: Más importante aún, la exclusividad del uso de la aplicación nativa permite a Netflix implementar un sistema DRM (Gestión de Derechos Digitales) más robusto y recopilar análisis más detallados sobre el comportamiento del usuario en la plataforma.
Esta no es la primera vez que Netflix impone barreras a la transmisión; la compañía ya había eliminado el soporte para AirPlay en su aplicación móvil en 2019, siguiendo una estrategia clara para centralizar la experiencia de visualización en sus aplicaciones nativas.
