Absolutely love this grotesque on the former Coats Memorial Church in Paisley. Built in 1894, this church was designed in a Gothic Revival style by H.J. Blanc and it's covered in some fantastic Gothic-inspired sculptures and carvings. It's now used as an events venue.

The image focuses tightly on the brick gable end and central stone spire of a historic ruined building, likely the church or main structure at Port Arthur, Tasmania.

The rough, textured brickwork fills the base of the frame, converging into a central stone spire that points dramatically upwards into a bright, cloudy sky.

Woodstock Dreams in the Hall of Bones

Two visitors to the Natural History Museum in London admire the huge skeleton in the main hall.

The Natural History Museum’s most famous skeleton used to be “Dippy,” a diplodocus that dominated that main hall for 112 years. In 2017, it was replaced with a blue whale skeleton (which is what you see here). Dippy wasn’t actually a real skeleton though; it was a composite cast made from plaster and steel. The irony? For over a century, visitors thought they were seeing an actual dinosaur when they were really looking at a rather elaborate replica.

Glasgow University looking rather magnificent from the bottom end of University Avenue this morning. Many of its older buildings are a unique mix of Victorian Gothic and Scottish Baronial styles, making it one of the most picturesque university campuses in the UK (but I am rather biased on that front!).

After the rain, Église Notre–Dame au Sablon seemed to glow. The stone still shimmered, and light from the stained glass spilled across the silence inside.

Sometimes the most moving moments while traveling aren’t the grand ones, they’re the quiet ones where the world just slows down.

Église Notre–Dame au Sablon, Brussels. The rain had just stopped when I arrived, and the stones still shimmered. Inside, light poured through stained glass in every color imaginable—painting silence into something sacred. #Brussels #Belgium #Photography #GothicArchitecture #Travel

Watching over the city... or waiting for something to awaken on All Hallows' Eve.

A close-up view of a stone gargoyle perched on the edge of a building, its wings raised and one clawed hand extended forward. The weathered statue has a fierce expression and is partially wrapped in a rusty chain. The background shows a clear blue sky.

Ruined Gothic arches and towering stone columns rise from the remains of Holyrood Abbey in Edinburgh, a historic site steeped in Scottish history. Once a grand medieval monastery, the abbey now stands roofless, with intricate stonework and graceful windows framing views of the surrounding greenery. Visitors wander through the historic ruins, experiencing the quiet majesty of the architecture that has endured for centuries. A favorite spot for travel photography, the abbey is a striking reminder of Scotland’s storied past. #HolyroodAbbey #HistoricRuins #GothicArchitecture #TravelPhotography #ScottishHistory

The ruins of Holyrood Abbey in Edinburgh, Scotland, feature weathered stone walls, tall arched windows, and partially collapsed columns, creating an open-air interior where the roof once stood. Visitors walk along the gravel and stone paths, some reading informational plaques while others explore the historic architecture. The left wall displays a series of repeating Romanesque arches and windows, while the far end opens to a large Gothic traceried window framing the greenery of the surrounding landscape. The space has a mix of tourists, some taking photos and others listening to audio guides, emphasizing its role as a popular historic site within the city.

✨ Cathedral of Viana do Castelo ✨

Majestic and serene, the Cathedral of Viana do Castelo is a true gem of Portuguese heritage. Its imposing Romanesque-Gothic façade, guarded by two sturdy towers, invites you into a space of profound beauty and spirituality.

Inside, the light filtering through the stained-glass windows reveals a harmonious atmosphere where architectural detail and sacred silence meet. The richly decorated altars, the intricately designed ceilings, and the sculptures that tell centuries of faith make every corner of this cathedral a testimony to devotion and art.

A place where history can be felt in every stone, and the soul finds peace. 🕊️

Little Viki the hedgehog went on a super-secret roof expedition at Ulm Minster! 🤯 High up, seeing hidden rooms and a unique view of the main choir. It was a prickly thrill! 😅 The giant bell missed its 4:15 PM chime, maybe it took a hedgehog break. 😂 This historic building needs constant care by stonemasons. What's next? Rhine and a castle! Stay tuned!

The magnificent main entrance to Kelvinside Hillhead Parish Church in the west end of Glasgow. I paritcularly like the nested gothic arches around the doors and the massive wheel window above them.
