I just got an invite to my graduation and I decided I'm not going to go.

My oldest kid and my friends and my sister were all encouraging me to go, but... I just don't love events like this. And it's an extra trip to Perth, plus hiring a gown, and booking leave from work. I guess I would have to get something fancy (even if secondhand) to wear too, since my wardrobe consists of jeans, tshirts and hoodies, and really nothing else.

The reasons for going would all be good reasons if I weren't actually me, a person who doesn't like crowds of strangers, or having to mask and make small talk, or dressing up in fancy clothes.

Also, the relief at the realisation that I am choosing 'no' is kind of amazing. I will be just as thrilled - in fact, much more thrilled - to get my certificate in the post

Good morning tooting friends. It was about 12c when I woke up this morning & it’s a beautiful bright blue sky outside. We’re heading to a very pleasant 25c so I’m going to mow the lawns this morning & they certainly need it at the moment. Not too much else planned though. I might get my sourdough starter fed in prep for baking a loaf over the weekend.
Last nights year 12 graduation of my eldest granddaughter was culmination of 13yrs of school. It was lovely seeing my now 18yr old sweetie receiving her certificate along with her peers. I expected it to be a very long night, but at 9.30pm as the main celebrations started, I was able to head home & leave it to the younger people to enjoy.
I sat alongside her great Nanna on her mother’s side, an amazing lady over 20yrs older than I am & I’m 73yo. Still driving, still in & maintaining her own home, she’s inspirational. She’d even been in day surgery yesterday & came to the graduation nevertheless #AgingDoneWell.
I’m off out again this evening, this time to hear Jelena Dokic speak.
