New graphics tablet...this one is the XPPen Deco Mini 7 v2. I realized that I was really only using my ancient Wacom Bamboo(2010) because it was portable and Just Works. And that one has kinda poor specs relative to anything you can get today, the activation on it is very springy, the nib is very plasticy. I tend to hold the pen very light so I need the opposite, low activation and high friction. So I got this one and also a Pegasus minature and tried them both out. It's pretty good, pretty light activation and you can drag the side of the nib which is great to add fine control without tensing up. And it works on Android(IbisPaint X) with zero configuration.

For a sleeve, I picked up something at Daiso and added velcro dots on the flap to seal it. It's bulkier than the Bamboo sleeve but everything still fits. #tablet #graphicstablet #digitalart

This report about #Wacom graphics tablets is disturbing for a couple of reasons.

1. They are surveilling users of their #tablet - a human-interface device analogous to a mouse or trackball - recording every application you open, or when you switch between windows of different applications. They are collecting this data via a trip through Google Analytics, aka Spyware Central. There is no possible way to justify collection of this particular data; it is none of their damn business how long you have your drawing program focused before switching to your browser and back again. The author notes their privacy policy really doesn't describe this collection of data correctly, so there really can't be informed consent in the first place.

2. Why on earth is it possible in #Apple #OSX / #MacOS for a USB human interface device driver to capture this information in the first place? Apple shares a big slice of the blame here - this should just simply not be possible for the driver to collect in the first place. Having such a driver allowed to place outgoing HTTP requests is also a big "WTF are they thinking?" moment.

@mykallykan It's the same for me. I have been using #Gimp regularly since 2007. At that time I also got my very first #Wacom #graphicstablet. And it worked smoothly on Linux even at this early stage! ๐Ÿ˜

I still have to get used to working with #Krita, and I still have a lot to learn about it. But probably easier for me it feels easier to work with K than for you because I haven't used PhotoShop, Indesign, etc. before.

Still worth the trade though! :D

Yes, absolutely. And for me it's a lot of fun! ๐Ÿ˜

I just can't get my #graphicstablet to work the way I did under #Debian. Basically, the #Medion device works with the #wacom driver. In my 2-monitor mode, however, it is split in the middle, which is rather inconvenient for drawing. In Debian, a two-line #shell file was sufficient, with which I could continuously switch through the states "Both -> Left -> Right" using a keyboard shortcut. Now under #ArchLinux, it just doesn't work anymore. Does anyone know where I'm confused? #Arch #Linux

Open-source whiteboarding apps (w/graphics tablet support) have been on my mind recently.

I found Lorien thanks to @itsfoss, so I gave it a try. I like that it's infinite and brightly coloured by default!

What open-source whiteboarding apps do you use?

Well, that was interesting. Found a fix for tilt (and rotation) to work correctly w/my wacom intuos pro s graphics tablet! ๐ŸŒŸ The issue was that `TX=` and `TY=` were not correctly going into the negative, causing weird behaviour.

It was more complicated than I expected so I ended up commenting on this issue with my solution:

ยซ Goodbye xsetwacom, hello #gsetwacom ยป by @whot

ยซ Well, most configurations possible with xsetwacom are actually available in #GNOME. So let's make those available to a commandline utility ! And voila, I present to you gsetwacom, a commandline utility to toggle the various tablet settings under GNOME ยป

Huion Inspiroy 2 L Pen Drawing Tablet Review โ€“ An Affordable Entry-Level Pen Tablet mightygadget.com/huion-inspiro

In today's episode of #graphicstablet not working: my pen died. But as the problem was apparently just a loose inductor wire, I'm definitely not paying #huion 20 bucks for a new pen. Some soldering later, it's as good as new. I just wish this thing was easier to tear apart, it's never nice to see parts glued together when trying to #repair something.

I have an old Wacom intuos 3, which works fine on older machines (no longer supported on modern MacOS). Free to anyone that can make use of it and is happy to cover the shipping.

Edit:
โ€œ@jakob
information that might be interesting for some people: The tablet works fine with any modern Linux distribution so all the Linux users can use these without any Problems (I do so myself ^^)โ€

I may be in the market for a new graphics tablet.

What's the good Wacom alternative these days? Huion?

Any personal recommendations?

Started looking into display tablets again - only to remember my M1 MBP can only support 1 external monitor ๐Ÿ˜ข

Now I'm not sure if I still explore the idea, and just disconnect from the ultra-wide when I want to do some drawing.

Or stick with the non-display graphics tablet I have... Though it was the cause of much frustration the the last time I tried it.

I just had a true #Linux moment. I needed to sign a document and remembered I still had an old #Wacom #GraphicsTablet laying around.

Unlike #Windows, I just plugged it in and it just worked perfectly, including the pressure sensor. Wow!

@9mmBallpoint Reminds me that many people have never even seen the pointer device type of tablets (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Graphics), which don't do anything more than what my description suggests.

They're just HIDs, not independent computers running whatever the hell in the background.

last year I made my old tablets into wall plaques! I was inspired by the time I was visiting my friend's coworking space and they had a framed copy of #photoshop on 3.5 floppy disk.
#graphicsTablet #wacom #maker #plaque #artcave #artStudio #tabletHallOfFame

two plaques each with an old graphics tablet and tools displayed, with a fancy name tag at the top (GRAPHIRE2 2003 and BAMBOO 2007)the plaques hanging on the wall, at the top of an array of cork tiles. in between the plaques is a fancy calligraphy that says "fuck you pay me".

Decided to join team #graphicstablet again after a break of approximately 20 years.

Used to have the worlds cruddiest Wacom Graphire 2, with a pen AND a mouse. A mouse on a graphics tablet ??

I wonder if I can remember how to do the hand eye coordination thing of making marks somewhere different to where my hand is...
