A young Grey Butcherbird hassles its parent for food.

An Australian Pelican, stands around looking stately next to the lake.

And one of four Bush Stone-curlews hanging around together this arvo.

Two birds on a branch. The foreground on is paler in colour, being a browny-grey on top and dirty white underneath. It is smaller and has its beak open wide calling for food. The adult bird next to it, has a black head, grey wings and charcoal tail and is mostly ignoring the younger bird (as it has just been fed).A large mostly white pelican with black and white wings, and a pink bill, standing on a rock behind some low reeds. The ever unapproving stare of a Bush Stone-Curlew. It is standing in a garden bed, the ground is covered in twigs and dried heath-like leaves, of the same colour as the birds plumage. The same pelican, but this time not obscured by reeds.

Today's birds on campus are decidedly spring-themed.

We have a trio of Pied Currawong fledglings.
A parent Masked Lapwing dutifully sitting on eggs.
A Grey Butcherbird fledgling excitedly calling for food as its parent turns up to feed it.
And not following the theme, a Buff-banded Rail on the edge of the lake.

Three fluffy dark grey Pied Currawong Fledglings sit in a tree. Two are calling, and the third (in the middle) looking on.With just its head poking up from a patch of un-mown grass, this Masked Lapwing is sitting on eggs, due to hatch "any day now".
The birds head has a black cap, yellow mask, beak and wattles and white neck.A very excited Grey Butcherbird fledgling on a branch calls to its parent on another branch. The parent is holding some food in its beak. The beautifully patterned Buff-banded Rail, standing amongst the long grasses next to the lake. Its reflection can be seen below it, slightly blurred by movement on the water's surface.

It was a bit cool for February the other day - at least for Australia. A Grey Butcherbird floofed up in the backyard, Armidale NSW. #birdsOfMastodon #birds #naturephotography #backyardbirds #Armidale #NSW #Australia #GreyButcherbird

Against a backdrop of green a Grey Butcherbird perched on a vertical branch. Its body faces camera, the head looks slightly left. The feathers on the body are floofed. The head is black, the upper body Grey (only just visible), the belly pale grey. The beak is white before a black tip with a slight hook. The Grey Butcherbird again, this time looking to the right of frame. Still floofed.
