Is D&D the best #fantasy #RPG out there? That's definitely debatable. #5E isn't perfect, and #Hasbro #WotC is a crappy company.

But, "best" is a subjective when it comes to #TTRPGs. Best for what? Best for whom? Best *at* what?

The #OSR #grognard community can also be really unwelcoming, offputtingly arrogant and snobbish. And I didn't even mention racist and sexist.

I’m digging into modern clones and renditions of original #DnD. In green is a cleaned up version of 0e (edition zero 1974) that’s easy to read. I ❤️ 0e because it reveals D&D’s simple heart. In blue is a modern, extended version of “the blue book” (1977) which became known as D&D Basic Set in the 80s. It’s the last version before AD&D 1e was published and the precursor of what became known as Basic/Expert (B/X) D&D through 1991.

Now, the #Warhammer #Grognard in me wants to point out that "the #ImperiumofMan" is specifically described as NOT "appreciating the wonderful variety in humanity," let alone "the rest of the universe."

The REST of me is just SICK and TIRED of #Warhammer40K, #Warhammer, and "#DarkFantasy" in general. I just want it all to go away, now.

I got into #WHFB because I liked the idea of #collecting and #painting little men and I didn't know #ReapersMinis were a thing. It was a mistake.

If I'd bought a new set of custom dice for each PC I played, I'd have to hire a Storage Locker for them all, and I'd be hiding out from the Loan Sharks!
I took the cheaper way, of checking what dice I already had and basing my next PC on them!

A #dice set missing just one die is the kind of thing that can drive an old game collector crazy, and I was a collector back then.

I'd stopped playing #DnD in 1999 because I didn't like Third Edition, but restarted five years later when I decided it was OK to be an old #grognard who specialized in old versions of D&D. A major part of embracing my grognard roots was using eBay to hunt down all the classic gaming accessories I'd missed the first time around... including dice.

The answer was simple, but at the time, a bit shocking: My millennial girlfriend's #DnD set was hand-me-down from her father, who claimed he bought the game back in the 1970s, but never played it, because "it was too complex." (I laughed in #grognard at that.)

For the first time in my then-40 years, I was dating someone young enough to have *inherited* her D&D stuff from her parents. I've never felt more like a cradle-robber in my life!

Went to see Napoleon and can confirm it's a bit of a mess. If you have any basic knowledge of Napoleonic Warfare you may find it a bit upsetting #grognard
