From the #GuardianUK on #5minutecity

“If you go back in time, when you did city planning, you would say: ‘Where do the roads go? How do the cars get from A to B?’ That was your main priority,” says Riemann. “Then we’d put bike lanes next to the roads, pedestrian areas next to that and so on. Here, we did the opposite. We said: ‘What does a walkable city look like? What do the streets look like? What do people like to experience as they are walking?’” Transport-wise, they started with a new metro line, then cycle routes. “At the end, it was like: ‘OK, so now that we have all this infrastructure for walking, biking and public transit, is there still some room for cars?’”

Journalists from the daily and weekly newspapers are protesting against the prospect of the sale of the second, the oldest Sunday newspaper in the world, to the Tortoise Media group.

People in the UK are celebrating because the Prime Minister actually delivered on something the public wanted; sacking the Home Secretary.

Apart from when we were attacking Labour under Corbyn of course. But hey, now we see how bad the Tories are, we can definitely recommend drinking the luke warm piss of Starmer. #GuardianUK #TooLate

#GuardianUK talking absolute bollocks as usual. Implying that #bridgerton is an accurate historical drama that is spoilt by its portrayal of #BAME characters is like saying Carry On up the Khyber is let down by not dealing with the Hindu Muslim issue in India. I find this kind of liberal oh-so-clever hand wringing more nauseous than out and out racism in the DM.

#Toynbee talking nonsense in the #GuardianUK theguardian.com/commentisfree/ Labour hardly moved in terms of popularity - their gains were by default and there is no sense of a wave of support for Starmer and his light blue policies.

Dear #GuardianUK why give this mindless numpty any credence. You really have to stop publishing nonsense from failed politicians

The annual UK budget for the #arts sector is half of one month of #EatOuttoHelpOut #GuardianUK and £3m less than in 2010. A competitive fixed-term #NPO process forces us to commit to ambitious programme and organisational development plans and subjective value measures like "Dynamism," so everyone's trying to do more for less. I'm not sure who's better or worse off; those in or out of this toxic "Portfolio" model. And we appear to have waved goodbye to #AtArmsLength

@evanengel @Rushkoff #jaronlanier talks about just that in #GuardianUK today:
"a very different world could unfold where if a bot relied on your reporting, you get payment for it, and there is a shared sense of responsibility and liability where everything works better. The term for that is data dignity.”

#TheGuardian #guardianuk The Guardian trying to sell itself as standing up to the Tories for the last 13 years just leaves a bit of a bad taste in my mouth since they spent a chunk of that time laying into the Leader of the Opposition, thus ensuring we ended up with the current crop of rightwing criminals.

@leighbooker #GuardianUK a few years behind the curve as us usual. Trusts can’t get enough substantive staff to cover normal clinics so facilities would be sitting idle. Straight choice: pay enough to attract sufficient staff or pay more to private companies. Guess which the government favours?

#JohnCrace writes in his Digested Week in today's #GuardianUK how he expected a speed awareness course to be "punitive and shaming". Instead he found it "highly informative and thoroughly worthwhile". I can endorse that, having done a course in person pre-pandemic. These courses should be part of preparing all drivers for today's road conditions. Perhaps the human misery flowing from road accidents - let alone the financial costs - would be reduced if they were.
