Since I'm impatient for more Gqux, I went back to Wing. I watched episodes 3 and 4. I love over the top Gundam characters. So far, I am reminded of 00 because of the large cast but these characters seem more likable. I also like the art style and aesthetic way more than 00.

I also dropped Grendizer U for now. I watched up to halfway through episode 9. There's only 13 episodes, but the video would not stop buffering and I was getting bored. I often feel like I need to finish any anime that I start but I understand this is a dumb bad habit that wastes my time when I could be watching things I actually like. So I'm trying to get better at dropping stuff.

The subs for Grendizer were weird. I suspect it was translated from Japanese to Arabic and then to English. I'm not an expert in those other two languages, but some word choices seemed odd to me. I noticed akuma was translated as criminal instead of devil and miko was translated as guardian instead of priestess. Seems like the religious stuff was scrubbed out for that localization.

I finally sprayed some Dullcote on my #RealGrade Wing Gundam Zero EW, so here it is with all its stickers and (Delpi) decals.

Overall, I'm pretty happy with it. Most of my complaints come from the technology of the time it was released. The final result looks fantastic, though, so I won't complain too much.

Wrapped up my Gundam Wing rewatch with the Endless Waltz movie. As much as I like the series, I think I like Endless Waltz even more. The Gundams all look 20% cooler - especially the Deathscythe with its bat wing cloak, though I am biased since the Deathscythe is my favorite Gundam in this series. :akko_giggle:

Most of the excesses of the series have also been stripped away, leaving the story more plot oriented and focused, letting the characters and setting reach a fuller potential.

On a side note, Dorothy's brief appearance is an amusing highlight, and reminds me of Shiori's 'scandalous tape' bit in the Utena movie in the way she delivers her lines.

In all, a fine way to send off the series!

Just watched the first ep of Moonrise. And that was really good. I'm definitely watching this show. The description compared it to #GundamWing, and so far that is apt [in ways not including mecha]. It has a really good pace. Grand but not overwhelming. Introduces things well. And some interesting speculative technology.

Does anyone know if team members from #Gundam 00 are in involved in this?I'm getting some similar design vibes.

Just finished my rewatch of Gundam Wing, and what a fun nostalgia trip that was, over the top melodrama and all. As much as I still enjoy it, I have noticed that the big second-half story drops (Zero System, Queen Relena, and Peacemillion, for example) don't carry the same punch that they did when I first saw the series. I don't like it any less, though.

All that remains to tie things up is to watch Endless Waltz again. And after all these years I still have never watched the three episode OVA version; I've only ever watched the film version, both for getting the movie experience and because it had extra scenes. (Kind of like how after two decades I've only ever seen the Extended Versions of the Lord of the Rings film trilogy and never the theatrical versions.)

Gundam Wing will always be one of my favorite anime series because of its role in introducing me to the medium. Years later, once I was able to take my nostalgia goggles off, I realized how over the top and ridiculous the story and characters are at times, but it didn't make me enjoy the series any less; it kind of adds to its charm.

But Gundam Wing's love of excess reaches its breaking point once the Queen Relena arc begins. That one plot thread is the culmination of all the show's excesses, going way over the top with no looking back.

So despite, or perhaps because of, Gundam Wing's embrace of being as overly dramatic as possible, it remains something that I will always enjoy and have fond memories of.
