• The original idea (make a new #Xorg release so people don't use random #git snapshots) might've been noble but got self-sabotaged by an unbearable (as in ESR & RMS) maintainer giving everyone the finger.

Or to put it in simple terms:

• "Please, fork off!"

As shitty as it may seem, #Xorg is 'on live support' (like a braindead organ donor) and #Xlibre won't change the fact that the course of #Wayland is locked in.

• It feels like #HDVMD: A hack that isn't gonna be the future.

OFC people have the right to build their own Wayland & #SystemD-free #Linux or #Unix-esque distro.

• I just don't see anyone wanting to build drivers for at best 1% of Desktops and nieche Distros not following #LSB conventions.

Instead I'm convinced #Wayback by @ariadne will be the solution for the problem when it comes to #X11 applications & desktops that don't work on #Xwayland!

...and that worked, because if we've to ask who won: HD-DVD, blu-ray or HD-VMD [lol], you'd say #Netflix or #BitTorrent or god forbid #YouTube, but I digress...

The reason we don't have #BigBoxPackaging for #Games anymore is due to #GameConsoles:

• With the rise of the #PS2 & #Xbox360, the "#DVD #JewelCase" became the norm and #EconomiesOfScale kicked in.

• Also #OnlineStores kicked off and #Retail demanded more efficient #ShelfSpace and was unwilling to accept bigger boxes than for DVDs.

It's the same reason #BluRay, #HDDVD & #HDVMD (LOL!) have almost identical packaging and why we get super cursed packaging like a 24-disc case that is barely triple-wide...

• Also packaging games in colours like green [ #Xbox ], blue/white [ #PlayStation ] red [#Nintendo], violet [Xbox 360 #Kinect], black/transparent [#Windows-#PC] made it way easier to distinguish for consumers even from a distance where they can't read the spine and identify the logo.

Apparently #Toshiba rushed #HDDVD so hard to the market they literally released a #Pentium4-based #Linux box with a #Desktop #Drive as their first #Player...

• Any #veteran #KernelDevs and #FLOSS #Lawyers wanna pull a #BusyBox and beat the HD-DVD specs out of them in court?

• And yes, #Microsoft prolonged the #FormatWar at the expense ob #bluray solely to get their #Streaming and #Download business off the ground.

So in the format war of blu-ray vs HD-DVD vs #HDVMD (yes you read right there existed a 3rd format, HD-VMD, that just tried to do absurd layer numbers to still use red lasers and be in theory cheaper to make discs and drives for!), the real winner are shitty Streaming Services like #Netflix and the like.

• Tho I still think #BitTorrent owns them all as #delistings and absurdly high #subscription fees and lack of #physical releases at reasonable prices resurged #piracy , but that's just me #ReadingTheRoom and saying the obvious thing noone wants to admit.
