Repairing a Hallicrafters S-120 https://hackaday.com/2024/09/08/repairing-a-hallicrafters-s-120/ #Hallicrafters #vintageradio #RepairHacks #RadioHacks #Teardown
I went to the Dayton #Hamvention #hamfest this year with the intent on finding a #Hallicrafters S-38C. The gods smiled upon me, for a good example was had for a good price. I drug home some other thing I didn't need as well, check out Friday's finds on my project page:
One of the things you should expect when purchasing an old radio is that the filter capacitors are bad. For this #Hallicrafters S-38C, it was no exception.
Seeing has how #technology has improved over the years, I've though about spinning up a PCB with SMT devices to replace the dead can in this unit. That's probably going to offend some purists, but I want the thing to work.
I have a #Hallicrafters #radio on my bench for capacitor repair, and had someone ask me why the dial lamp is in the circuit the way it is.
The dial lamp on old #electronics can be more than a lamp...sometimes it's used as a ballast for the rectifier #tube.
Check out why on my project page.

covers frequencies from 540 kHz to 32 MHz in four bands.
For my #xmas #hamradio weekend project I'm bringing this #hallicrafters SR-150 from 1963 back to life.
I picked this up in trade for some tower work a few years ago and it's been sitting in storage. So I figured it would be a good time to get it tested and setup in the ham shack.

Finally picked up two radios that my friend got for me at an estate sale. I have to figure out the 11-pin power supply for the #Heathkit 20m transceiver, and the #Hallicrafters receiver weighs easily 60lbs. True "boat anchor"! ⚓️ #hamradio
