Amazing tribute to at the All Star Game in . It focused on my all-time favorite moment, when he surpassed Babe Ruth's career record. Henry Aaron, or Hammerin' Hank, finished the 1973 season one short of the record, got many race-based death threats in the off-season, and hit magic number 715 in 1974. He was briefly in the Negro American League, played 23 seasons in the majors, and passed away in 2021.

Meanwhile, not a good look for #MLB. They edited the statement below out of Vin Scully's original call when #HankAaron broke the HR record.

Craig Calcaterra: "...when you omit 'A Black man is getting a standing ovation in the Deep South for breaking a record of an all-time baseball idol' from Scully's call you completely alter what he was describing as 'marvelous.' Scully was NOT just broadly marveling. He was marveling at a very specific, very important thing." #baseball #ASG #vinscully

Sometimes I imagine my younger self coming to work with me, looking at everything we’ve created together. I can see him smiling so big, and it fills me with joy.

5yrs ago I spoke to the legend Hank Aaron. This man has a place in American History not for his accomplishments but for what they meant outside of baseball. “Do the very best that you can, at ALL TIMES.” @Braves@sportsbots.xyz #hankaaron

My dad saved the newspapers from when Hank Aaron tied then beat Babe Ruth's home run record. I found them after he died and I was going through the ton of ephemera he kept.

I thought of maybe trying to sell them but I'm not sure what the market is for old newspapers, and as a Braves fan (mostly in the 90s) myself I find myself dragging my feet over finding out. Anyway, it's nice to look at and share them on anniversaries.

The Atlanta Constitution newspaper, dated April 5, 1974. The bold, simple headline reads "Aaron Hits 714," along with a photo and a drawing of Henry 'Hammering Hank' Aaron and a photo of a sad looking Babe Ruth. The front page of The Atlanta Constitution newspaper dated April 9th 1974. Headline reads "Aaron Hammers No. 715 And Moves Ahead of Ruth," and the photo is a shot of Henry 'Hammering Hank' Aaron hitting that home run.

Something else that happened today — actually, 50 years ago today: Hank Aaron broke Babe Ruth's home run record. It wasn't easy.

Wonderful interview with Al Downing, who threw that pitch while playing for the : npr.org/2024/04/08/1243366146/

Of course, it was not an easy journey for Mr. Aaron: "Hank Aaron rose above racist hate mail and threats in pursuit of Ruth’s home run record" apnews.com/article/hank-aaron-
