loc.gov/pictures/item/20026967

This image depicts a historical view of the Royal Baths in Harrogate, Yorkshire. The photograph appears to be from around 1890-1900 based on its vintage style and coloration. It captures an elaborate building with classical architectural elements such as columns and domed roofs indicative of grand public buildings or institutions during that period.

The architecture is detailed, featuring a central dome atop the main structure, which might have housed significant social activities given historical context for bathhouses at this time. Other wings extend outward symmetrically from this center piece, suggesting expansive facilities designed to accommodate large numbers within its walls.

In front of these buildings lies what seems like an open square or courtyard with pathways and a few ornamental elements such as railings delineating different areas—perhaps demarcating public versus private spaces for bathers.

The image is slightly faded and aged, showing typical signs of wear on the print which suggest its considerable age relative to modern photographic standards.

No people are visible in this scene; it's devoid of human figures that would otherwise provide scale or context regarding usage patterns at these baths during their operation period.

The Harrogate Inn in Harrogate, Yorkshire. Some quick architectural drawings in the sketchbook trying out this new blade pen that I picked up from @thingsbydan while in the UK. May take a bit to get used to this pen (a lot different than a crowquill nib) but I’m quite enjoying some of the inking effects so far.

If anyone’s going to be there this weekend you can find me at table C23 in the 2000AD hall.

I’ll have copies of my new Space Captain book and the old classics too.

This afternoon I visited the Mercer Gallery in Harrogate with my sister & saw Liz West's H.A.P.P.Y exhibition.

The installation of multicoloured acrylic discs with a soundscape playing evokes a calmness that (to me) was equivalent to watching still water in the rain. (in a way it reminded me of Monet's late work)

Its really calming & well worth a visit

Keeley Forsyth - Debris

The rattling in my head from Keeley Forsyth

Melancholic musings, stories & life.
Wow this was a listen I felt glued to. I couldn’t pry myself away. Even after listening I felt the sound & arrangement stay in my head, no matter where I was, even now

The arrangement & this ‘cut back’ approach made it the more haunting to listen to in an addictive way. So much so I made the sounds of the instruments just because they swirled around so much.
A captivating gem of an album I randomly picked up on a whim, it called to me & glad I picked it up with no questions

Been too busy/tired to post this sooner but, as we were leaving the conference dinner on Wednesday night, there were some workers doing road lettering right outside the #Harrogate Convention Centre. I was bigging up the skills of line painters to colleagues and that it's done freehand, the workers overheard and invited us to watch, and a small group formed. Except... the guy doing it got distracted and wrote the N backwards. He obviously noticed but styled it out and, come the morning, had been corrected.

So, sorry, Harrogate taxpayers, for distracting your workers and causing a bit of extra cost 👷🏻‍♂️

Two line-painting workers with their truck behind them. One worker is in the process of freehand writing the letter G in the word "loading". Although from the camera's point of view it's upside down, you can still see the letter N has been written backwards (И).A photo taken the following morning where the N has been corrected, leaving a dark scar of the incorrect diagonal line.
