Yesterday was our mini-painting meet-up. I started on the elf from HeroQuest. I don’t know what came into me but I decided to try non metallic metal on the armor and sword. I think it is still missing something. 🤔 She‘s not finished yet, so it’s a work in progress. #MiniaturePainting #Nerdlings #PaintingMiniatures #HeroQuest #Boardgames

The elf hero character of HeroQuest on a painting handle. The mini started from a black primer and a white zenithal. In the first step I painted a darker blue grey. For the middle tones I added grey. Also some skin color was added at the beginning. After adding an off white for the highlights and a little blue ink to add a slight hue to the grey. Here more of the rest base colors were added. This was the final progress I left with yesterday. Still needs work to be done.

My oldest son just finished The Maze in a very short session; found the secret door, killed the orc in a single combat turn, found the staircase.

How it started and how it’s going (in our monthly paint group): Another orc from HeroQuest finished. I found it appropriate to give him a purple Mohawk. I dunno why. 😅 Also he is not really good at maintaining his gear. 😁 #MiniaturePainting #PaintingMiniatures #Nerdlings #HeroQuest #BoardGames

An orc from HeroQuest. He has just some base coloring done. Green for skin, silver for armor and weapon. At the end of the session: the skin has shadows and highlights as have tue clothes and armor. Weapons and armor is full with rust. The orc has a purple mohawk.A shot from the back of the orc to show the back armor off.A little more close up from the front.

When I returned home Celestine had gotten out my shoebox of miniatures that holds HeroQuest pieces and lined up many of them. We played the game soon after for the first time.

We tried using the companion phone app for the new edition of the game. It played well, but the changes in names for monsters were a bit distracting. It's a great quality of life enhancement and enables solo play.

This is honestly where I'm having a serious conversation with myself. In my opinion, which is obviously biased since I painted this, I _do_ feel like this guy is pretty much good enough to play.

Consider I'm not trying to win any kind of painting tournament, as far as like.. just playing with the mini and it looking better than straight plastic, I think this is good enough.

And maybe.. that's ok? Maybe nothing has to be look hyper realistic. #MiniaturePainting #HeroQuest

Initially first run of paints done. Already I think I can safely say that I prefer the grey base coat better than the black. It’s definitely allows for the miniature to be brighter. #MiniaturePainting #HeroQuest

Some more hobby progress. I did the base for the barbarian. Good practice for drybrushing. He is finished and waiting for varnishing. I started some base coloring (greenskin) on the first Rumbleslam mini. #MiniaturePainting #PaintingMiniatures #Nerdlings #wip #HeroQuest #Rumbleslam

Content with my first test run, our Goblin friend was feeling lonely. So it’s time now to work on his brother. As a test to see how colors work on a lighter base coat, this one will be grey.

I will also be utilizing a poor man’s wet palette, but more on that later!

I redid the non metallic metal on the sword of my HeroQuest barbarian. I watched so many tutorials and still it looks like poop. I need so much more practice. 🫠 At least the last touch up with some blue ink kinda helped pulling it more together, but it’s still rough. Also added some washes and highlights. And metallic paints, because was demotivated to try nmm gold. 😅 #PaintingMiniatures #MiniaturePainting #Nerdlings #HeroQuest #wip

It’s of course very easy to see your mistakes and what not close up. Here is a bit more of a realistic picture. Dunno! I don’t think it’s too bad all things considering! We will have to see how it compares to using Citadel’s paints for the Sister Unit. #MiniaturePainting #HeroQuest

Spent some of tonight doing some more touch ups. Some shading and some highlighting but not much. I think our goblin might be about where we are going to get him for now. But this is also using very cheap paint, cheap brushes, etc.
