Starting my second ever batch of brewing.
The mash and sparge are done. Just getting it up to the boil before adding hops.
High hopes for this one - the mashed liquor is already much sweeter than last time.

@brudibrau You should be able to get good results with Omega's Lutra Kveik (available liquid and dry) fermented at very high temperatures...I don't think it's phenolic at all, but I've found conspicuously "spicy" notes at ~30C nonetheless, and there's no less-hassle option for bone dry fermentations. Lightning fast and barely requires any secondary with nil acetaldehyde production. Tariffs are a thing, though...
Given your affinity for simplicity in malt and hop bills and lower alcohol brews, I still feel like you'd love brewing a Grodziskie, being another beer that just screams summer refreshment (if you're okay with some soft smoke in your beer). You can get all those ingredients locally in Germany no sweat. I used Glacier hops to great effect in that style, but you might have access to the intended hop (Lublin) like I don't.
Okay I want some bone dry Saison for the next summer. I'll make it happen somehow. I'll find yeast that is not shipped all the way from Mexico. I'll either use WHC or Gozdawa. Or possibly even some liquid yeast. But there has to be Saison on these hot summer days!
Some of my hop varieties have crazy side shoots…totally normal for second year growth?
These are pretty high up for me to really do anything.

Getting serious now
A batch of 3kg crushed barley for next week's brew-up has arrived. Also bought another two 2.5l flasks to hold the mash at temperature and a fuck-off 7l pan to do the boil in one go.
This will be the beer for our annual summer BBQ in August, so let's hope it's an improvement on my last - and first ever - batch (which, actually, wasn't bad at all).
Dunno how you use one of these yet, a guy sold it to me for $5 at his garage sale. Any more competent beer brewing folks have opinions on the usefulness of this? (I assume for mashing grain?) #homebrewing
Today is a good day to bottle some mead
Time to test my homemade beer
I saw some little flies on my glass of beer, shooed them away. Taking a drink I notice a little fly in my beer. I fished it out and another. I see they are fruit flies so I guess the beer passes the fruity test. It is the Hefeweizen.
Made the mistake of mentioning my beer and wine brewing experiments to a relative, reminding her of her husband's failed first attempt at beer brewing, which apparently included glass embedded in walls and the ceiling , when most of the bottles simultaneously exploded, sending boozy shrapnel all across the kitchen, which also resulted in a brand new couch ruined by the family dog when he lost all control of his bladder as a result of the explosion of bottles. Apparently her husband has not yet been entirely forgiven for the incident. He was forced to immediately sell all of his equipment the next day. #homebrewing #beer
