Apparently it’s slow cooker week here at the home of big purple.
Odd timing given its a billion degrees and super humid outside.
Ah well. Flavour knows no calendar.

Some nice butter chicken-style curry, with a bit more heat, and plenty of potato and garlic, on some turmeric spinach rice.

Now lets see how much more tupperware i can stuff in the freezer.

When I cook and I’m just making it up as I go along, things can spiral and get out of hand.

Tonight I set out to use up a ton of coriander leaves, and I decided hey let’s make seasoned rice and mix them in.
Oh and broccoli and garlic braised in soy sauce and sesame oil that sounds good yeah.
And let’s take this beef mince and this pile of red capsicum and make savoury mince to have on top yeah! Oh and I have this half empty jar of sambal badjak sure or let’s add that too why not.

Suddenly I have about 5 meals worth of food to box up, and it’s all delicious but a quick simple cook had me busy for 90+ minutes.

Oh well. Results are good.

On a whim, made soda bread when i got home.

Also on a whim, rolled it out thin and scored the heck out of it.

Then on a related whim, smothered the top in leftover beef ragu from the other day, and some cheese, and basically turned it into a loaded flatbread.

……huh. Kinda delicious. If a bit dense and chewy.

I been teasing it all day, and it was… fun. And tasty. But a looker? Maybe not.

I made crepes - turns out it’s been so long that I last made crepes that I had to re-learn as I went.

Then i filled them with homemade ricotta cheese and a mushroom duxelles from a while back that I defrosted yesterday. Pretty tasty combo.

But next time… I think roll them properly, instead of wrapping them up like they’re burritos or spring rolls.

Oh and baked in the oven with a little ragu from the other night on top.

Almost a kilo of whole tomatoes and half a bottle of cheap red wine got put to good use.
