#HomeLabs

I'm diving head-on into the fascinating world of self-hosted services and self-managed home labs. If you are just starting a home lab, what route would you take? #selfhosting #homelabs

I'm thinking of switching from #spectrum to #frontierfios. What experience do you have any experience with Frontier Fios, particually in the #connecticut area? I have an extensive #homelab and lots of networking experience, so I know the devil is in the details.

I love improving my #homelab. I installed the #docker-socket-proxy to allow #UptimeKuma to access the #Docker #sockets of all my #VMs in a secure manner. The advantage by doing so is that i can now monitor every service including the ones that don't expose a port like #watchtower. And i can also restrict access to given functionalities.

@wyatt granted, it's the problem of the "low informarion density" and 'need to not loose "lesser-#TechLiterate|s" in the conversation'

#LTT nowadays is exclusively clickbaity "Entertainment" as the most competent person AFAICT ( @emilyyoung ) left them.

  • Espechally since LTT nowadays does more and more extreme "#HardwarePorn" that is completely decoupled from the needs, demands and capabilities of their target demographics.

Or did they actually make some #LowBudget content that is reproduceable (unlike #ScrapyardWars) ???

#DigitalerNachlass

Self-hosting is having a moment, even if it's hard to define exactly what it is. @ArsTechnica talks to Ethan Sholly about the self-hosted scene. #SelfHosting #HomeLabs #RSS #Piracy #Tech #Technology flip.it/Y7LCjy

So, everyone tells me #Homeassistant is clever and nice and nerdy, something all #Homelabs should have. But I've struggled to see how I can use it myself.
But now I have a few ideas, I want to start looking into stuff that I can connect to a Home Assistant install. But where to start?
Right now I'm thinking of smart electric plugs that I can manage the state of and see power usage over time, most likely a couple of #MotionSensors

Is there a good "where and what to buy" guide somewhere anyone can recommend?

Hey #homelab users!

You probably already know me by my free @BoxyBSD project and I often got asked about IPv4 addresses. Currebtly, I tinker with a new but also honestly not free service. The idea is creating a static IP service for homelab users. I'm aware that there're already some around, so what could be some benefits here?

- Static single #IPv4 & #IPv6 /48 (so you can subnet your homelab to several /64 without breaking #slacc)
- Bigger subnets (IPv4: /29, /28, /27 | IPv6: /32)
- Full RIPE personalization (inc. abuse & Co)
- #OpenVPN, #Wireguard, #GRE Support
- Auto configure (e.g., you load the wireguard config on any client and the addresses Arena immediately bound to that interface)
- Split usage / multiple tunnels: Use different IPs from your subnets at different locations
- Integration into #BoxyBSD
- Location in Germany or Netherlands (selectable)
- Hosted on redundant #FreeBSD nodes

Pricing:
- The starter package probably around 10€/month (not more) + 15€ setup including 2T traffic
- Pricing for addiriinal/larger subnets not yet sure, probably higher setup fees to avoid hoppers and spamers to keep the addresses clean
- Optional traffic packages (when exceeding speed Limit of 10Mbit which should still be ok for most homelabs)

World this be interesting? Im aware that many ones already do this by VPS themselves, so this might just be a bit easier and optionally offering whole networks including RIPE personalizations.

I am starting a new series as I am rebuilding my home lab. This video is out of order as I have one that I am working on editing to explain my plan. It's Thanksgiving, and I am happy for the solution that I got working.

Working on SuperMicro can be a nightmare.

@RxBrad I feel like the mini pc revolution is relatively new. Before that all you had was enterprise gear or older corporate gear that you could re-purpose. There is also something to be said about learning the hardware if you are going to be close to infrastructure in this way. However, these big 1 u servers are just not useful anymore for #homelabs .

I’m out here setting up a Kubernetes cluster by accident with CasaOS. Maybe I should actually _learn_ k8s/k3s huh? 😂

Any #ceph experts out there? Trying to reuse some disks from another cluster, and I tried zapping them with sgdisk and ceph-volume but during orchestration it's causing an error -11 and they all fail out. Some disks are brand new just for a quick Microceph that I tried. Thanks!!
