#Hosters

@unnick guess why?

  • The only nation that mandates #IPv6 support by#ISP|s is #Belarus!

Not to mention since #IPv4 "works fine" [sarcasm!] there is neither incentive nor mandate to change that from the side of #hosters.

I guess I've to buy myself a /24 block of #IPv4's and suck up the €500 p.a. fees for @ripencc ...

@torproject Q: I wish there was a similar tool test #Bridges, as bridges.torproject.org/scan/ is not that good and I don't want to hammer it with dozens of addresses, cuz at best that's quite antisocial if not possibly trigger responses assuming this is an intelligence gathering operation.

  • Ideally sone standalone binary that one can just give a list of #TorBridge|s in a text file (similar to the way one can just past them in at #TorBrowser) would help.

I.e.

bridgetest -v4 obfs4 203.0.113.0:80 …

bridgetest -v6 webtunnel [2001:DB8::1]:443 …

bridgetest -list ./tor.bridges.list.private.tsv
  • But maybe #onionprobe already does that. In that case please tell me to "#RTFM!"

Similarly there needs to be a more granular way to request #TorBridges from #BridgeDB (as it's basically impossible to get #IPv4 #Webtunnel addresses nor is there an option to filter for #ports like :80 & :443 to deal with restrictive #firewalls (i.e. on public #WiFi)…

  • there are flags like ipv6=yes but neither ipv4=yes nor ipv6=no yielded me other resultd than #IPv6 webtunnel bridges…

And before anyone asks: Yes, I do have a "legitimate purpose" as some of my contacts do need Bridges to get beyond a mandatory firewall and/or do use #TorBrowser (through an #SSH tunnel) to circumvent Tor & #VPN blocks and maintain privacy (as many companies do block sometimes entire #Hosters' ASNs due to rampant #scrapers

@jherazob @leberschnitzel they already exist...

I think it's bad #TechPopulism to think that #Anubis will fix all the issues.

Just block all the #GAFAMs ASNs & #hosters that host #Scrapers so the industry cracks down harder on them than on #IRC, #Tor #ExitNodes, #CSAM & #BitTorrent combined!

@lucasmz @nixCraft True, true...

What pisses me off is that @mozillaofficial is wastibg millions (!!!) on their #CEO whilst not even paying #hosters on time.

Compared to that, @torproject has way more #accountability, #consequences and #transparency...

@torproject same with #obfs4 bridges: there is no option to say like ports=80,443 or similar, which makes it cumbersome to get said bridges.

And trying to get places to #DontBlockTor that criminalize the use of #Tor is foolish at best.

Contabo ToS Section 9.4:

"
(4) The Provider is entitled to immediately block any webspace packages and servers that are being used to operate the “TOR” service, insofar as the Provider has become aware that the server or package is being used unlawfully. "

@malwaretech @briankrebs yikes

They make #CloudFlare, #DDoSguard and #CyberBunker look like legit #BonaFide-#Hosters by comparison!

@peterainbow well, you can just block all the ASNs that allow #AI #Crawlers and #Hosting...

@eloquence precisely that is my problem with bs like the #TikTokBan...

  • It's merely signalling that everything is fine unless it touches #NOBUS Doctrine and threatens the "#GlobalReach" of #NSAbook and it's access via #PRISM-Collaborators.

The fact that #DataBrokers basically act as privatized #intelligence agencies IS LITERALLY THE PROBLEM!

I'd not be surprised if #Trump were to basically create a "DATA-#FATCA" and demand #hosters and #providers outside the #USA to #backdoor their systems and provide #BulkAccess to #US citizens' data to US intelligence unless they want to face sanctions which would basically force them off the Internet due to it's US-centric nature!

@tychotithonus @kwf personally, I think mutually CDN'ing / mirroring stuff should be the norm...

  • Basically all #hosters I know do mirror the repos of distros inhouse to save on external traffic and if it was my decision (I'm not an #ISP) I'd encourage ISPs to maintain #BitTorrent trackers to prioritize internal traffi , but that's just wishful thinking...

@xerz the problem isn't @torproject or #TorBrowser but asshole #Hosters, #ValueRemoving #Rentseeker|s like #ClownFlare and #Enshittification.

@Elizafox the problem is that #Hosters ain't regulated like #Utilities...

And sadly you are correct by my own experiences too...

@xeraa @fuchsiii @puniko @linux_mclinuxface Case in point, #SSPL is an #AssholeLicense even more than #AGPLv3 because it's sole purpose is to commit #AssetDenial against #commercial users & #hosters.

It's worse than #GPLv3 because that one is lunacy in terms of #IP and espechally #Patents because it's solely ideologically motivated, but yeah...

IMHO everything under SSPL is #UnfreeSoftware in that it's #license terms are worse than a #SourceAvailable license as used by #Tarsnap because they are at least honest about the why...

I really hope not just #GAFAMs like #Amazon with #aws forked the pre-#Enshittification versions under #BSD and start publishing and maintaining these.

#Redis, like #Elastic and #MongoDB have chosen to kick everyone in the groin out of pettyness against commercial hosters, and I hope @Mastodon & @MastodonEngineering as well as @Gargron work hard to replace Redis with a real #FLOSS alternative like #RabbitMQ or even hetter, allow disabling a caching-DB in lieu of helping setup a #Ramdisk with a #PostgreSQL cache-DB on it.

It's #cleanup time! How many random stuff do you have hosted on #cloud #hosters like #netlify or #Vercel?

There is no #cloud, it is just someone else's machine!

@dameoutlaw @blujayfox

And no, the difference is that #BlueSky is a #centralized #SingleVendor / #SingleProvider platform and thus perfectly capable to #moderate and #delete everything.

Whereas :activitypub: as a protocol like #eMail and #HTTPS [the latter one it relies upon] is #decentralized, #MultiVendor / #MUltiProvider and thus the only angle that exists is going after #admins, #hosters and those that keep that shit online!

Just found this "delightful list of libre #hosters" which collects people and organizations who deploy, maintain and offer #FOSS services to the public: codeberg.org/jonatasbaldin/del

Made me finally rediscover #Nomagic which I had on a short list for a go-to-hoster and then somehow lost track of.. Glad so many hosters exist that provide an alternative to #surveillanceCapitalism and its toxic services!
