A new Science Advances study confirms that human footprints at White Sands, New Mexico, are around 23,000 years old, placing humans in North America during the Last Glacial Maximum, far earlier than previously believed. Originally excavated in 2019, the prints were first dated using seeds and pollen, but results were questioned. To verify, researchers returned in 2022–2023 and dated ancient lakebed mud instead. Two labs confirmed the age range: 20,700 to 22,400 years...
