Any other recommendations (up to, say 2500€)?

I need aftertouch, and at least 49 keys (or an expander without keys), but prefer 61. I'm not interested in monophonic or modular systems, or stuff that mostly makes atonal noises and screeches or bleeps; otherwise I'm totally agnostic about tone generation (subtractive, FM, waveshaping, tonewheel, whatever ...)

The Synthstrom #Deluge has landed at Casa Nazgul!

This thing is *sleek* - even more portable than expected!

And it's *immediately* engrossing. Within minutes of firing it up I was dialing in some sequences and playing with the synth engines.

Latest community firmware installed, along with the 'Boards of Deluge' soundpack #1.

This is going to be a great buddy for the #Hydrasynth.

I'm pleased to announce that 'Pressure Wave' is now available on my #Faircamp site.

This track has garnered over 2200 listens on #SoundCloud in the past month. I was going for a gritty edgy sound, inspired in part by Iggy's 'New Values'.

The bass line is pure gold. Hopefully I can remember how to reproduce it on the #Hydrasynth LOL. I really need to start keeping a log. 😁

Progress report, day 2: The #osmose has been set up as #mpe controller for the #hydrasynth desktop and the #steampipe. It took an anonymous poster to help me figure out how to send mpe to the steampipe (reduce the midi channels/voices to 8). The recording below titled “The puppet dances” - my first recoding for this configuration - is a tribute to our dear leader Marionetka Krasnov. Next stop, adding the #digitone for sequencing and percussion.

5/3 Well, I got the #C15 running with poly aftertouch from the NI S88 mk3 piano controller, and the #Hydrasynth Deluxe. Whew!

That leaves the #Osmose and the #ROLI Seaboards … but one step at a time. The biggest hurdle was the MIDI settings in #DigitalPerformer …

there are about 15 tweaks between the two synths and the DAW, and if *one* of them isn’t right, no poly AT.

The next challenge is to create/modify patches to best take advantage of poly AT … what a joy, to use full-length keyboards!

Just dropped. #Hydrasynth is the only voice here, sequenced partially by the MV-1 along with some actual pounding on the keyboard by yours truly. Still getting used to the velocity sensitivity curves. LOL

I spent an hour tonight playing with the Hydrasynth arpeggiator. I thought the phrase function might be limited because it isn't programmable but the phrases are pretty good and the arp editor functions can all be applied to them. Now to try and remember how to get the Force to play triplets... #hydrasynth

MIDI Madness

Okay, so the Hydrasynth is changing everything. It lies squarely in the centre of a Venn diagram in which it overlaps with my modular system as well as with my non-modular gear (Roland SP-404 & J-6, my Polyend Tracker Mini, and finally my Arturia Keystep 37 (that I’ve been struggling up until now to find a good use for)).

But here’s the thing: what ties it all together is MIDI. Up until now I’ve been avoiding MIDI as much as possible due to routing headaches, two different adapter standards (which is bonkers), and my own inertia to get it all figured out.

So I finally bit the bullet and ordered a Quadra Merge 4 as well as a Quadra Thru 4. These two little boxes allow for mixing and multing MIDI signals and have taken a lot of the pain out of messing with MIDI. It opens up even more creative avenues to explore. The results are magical.

Here’s an excerpt from last night’s Twitch session in which the Hydrasynth is being controlled simultaneously by the Roland J-6 and the Arturia Keystep 37.
