Ask: who owns your desktop, and the browser you use on the OS you have installed?
Not #Mozilla Not any more.
Some of us are looking for a return of #Iceweasel it has never completely disappeared.

Thanks to @jmairboeck for updating our TeXlive package to 2025 on Haiku! Now available for 32bit and 64bit 👍
After the update I pushed TeXstudio to version 4.8.6, on par with all! :)
Also big thanks to @3dEyes for updating Iceweasel, porting LibreWolf and Waterfox to Haiku! 👍
#HaikuOS #TEXLive #TEXstudio #TeXLaTeX #IDE #IceWeasel #Librewolf #Waterfox
PS, thanks to Bruno for providing me some sample tex files to be able to track this!
@job @tuxmain I think what Mozilla did to Debian packages is an exception to its trademark requirements
https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=815006
"More generally, Mozilla trusts the Debian packagers to use their best judgment to achieve the same quality as the official Firefox binaries."
If there are specific issues that needs adding a patch, Debian should be able to do that, and in worst case, resurrect #iceweasel name if mozilla complains again.
In light of #Mozilla's recent utter-and-complete SNAFU,
#Debian really needs to bring back #IceWeasel!!! X'D
Con todos los cambios en #firefox echo de menos el #Iceweasel que estuvo desarrollando el equipo de #Debian hace unos años.
@aburka @joeyh these ToS is not included in the source code, so don't apply to people building from source like #librewolf or #ironfox.
It applies to #Ubuntu, which ships official snap binaries, but not to #Debian which builds from source.
It'd at least be very confusing to people that only "some" Firefox is affected. Debian is a special case, as we got an exception from Mozilla for using that trademarked name (it was called #iceweasel for a long time before #mozilla gave this exception).
So I guess I'm actually going to #UninstallFirefox. I have installed #LibreWolf now, but how does compare in everyone's opinion to things like #IceWeasel and #Waterfox and all the other Firefox forks?

@n0toose #IceWeasel is a game-changer for #HaikuOS. Skipping over the already available LibreOffice, most productivity suites have cloud-hosted options available, so great browser support opens up a lot of possibilities to those with older hardware who may not want for go down the multi-user Linux route.
@silverpill @stefano @sun @jeffcliff someone in DMs made a good point that "ublock should be configured in a way that makes browser fingerprint identical for all users"!
Is a good point because another addon #noScript doesn't do this. Is VERY different when you u manually install it, as opposed to the version built into torbrowser. Manual installing NoScript in say #iceWeasel or #librewolf has disappointing exceptions to blocking #javascript, they don't block js of 40 CAGeMAFIA, netflx, yahoo, and pay(Prowl) domains/disservices.... therefore ENTRENCHING the past 25 years of effective #colonialism and i would say #fascism. A person needs to manually untick each of the 40(!) CAGeMAFIA domains every time they install (and reset!) the addon. Whereas tor browser, in Safest Mode of course, at least begins to level the playing field and blocks all js by default not giving favorable treatment to #oligarchs. (tangential to this problem, I believe tor could be much more transparent in highlighting sites that entrench the #technocracy, maybe it should include #yandex and #bytedance too and put a warning in the corner that a site is on #bigtech??)
To my surprise, the https://tails.net page states that @torproject are the developers of tails (!!!) so we can ask them direct....
"Hi Tor Devs,
1)why is uBlock on Tails' Tor browser and not in other tor browser installs? That immediately creates a browser #fingerprint and your project is against #fingerprinting because it negatively affects #anonymity, have you considered asking people whether they want to disable uBlock when they open tor browser, as per my response to @ma10gan above?
2) does the built-in uBlock in #TailsOS differ in anyway from a manual install of the addon of the same version?
3) while failing at (1) but confirming (2), can a link to the latest version of ublock used by Tor be placed on this page where ublock is mentioned, so people using Tor outside of Tails can stay up to date?
Thanks and looking forward to hearing back from #TorProject on this fairly serious discrepancy.
An experimental port of Firefox Iceweasel is now available on HaikuDepot! So far, most sites are working fine. YouTube video playback is fine and Discord just works, however the web browser does occasionally take itself down. Still rather usable, though! If @ActionRetro thought that Haiku was ready for daily driving with Falkon (see first screenshot), then rebranded Firefox surely has to make it even more viable by those standards!
It should be noted though that just like with Falkon, some crash dialogs can be ignored (drag them to another workspace) and the web browser can still be used.
Would it be too much to ask various #Mozilla #Firefox forks: #palemoon #waterfox #LibreWolf #iceweasel etc to join forces and chart an independent path, not just for catching up in #browser tech, but actually developing it in the right direction?
It's #IceWeasel all over!
@jalcine
Won't be long before we're all switching to #iceWeasel. Again.
@eniko & to those elitist nerds who all laughed at #IceWeasel , I say ha. Ha, I say
@petersuber I'll certainly give Mozilla, Inc. one cheer for reversing addons.mozilla.org's moratorium for Russian users on extensions able to circumvent Russian censorship.
But, you know who would get three out of three?
Anyone who starts keeping a persistent Firefox patchset permitting any user to control the browser's extension API keyring, and thereby to access extensions they (or someone they trust) signed, instead of only those Firefox extensions Mozilla, Inc. permits.
The real problem isn't monarchial errors; it's the monarchy.
My copy of ungoogled-chromium lets me load any extension I wish locally, without an online "store's" cryptographic signing permission. Why doesn't Firefox (outside of beta and developer releases, per https://stackoverflow.com/questions/31952727/how-can-i-disable-signature-checking-for-firefox-add-ons)?
From 2004 to 2016, Debian Project reacted to Mozilla's unacceptable "Distribution Partners" conditions (https://lwn.net/Articles/676799/) by maintaining a high quality unbranded browser version named Iceweasel -- until Mozilla, Inc. relented.
Mozilla, Inc.'s extensions monopoly, IMO, shows Iceweasel's proper time not only has come again but never ended. As Kipling (and Poul Anderson) said, "No truce with kings."
(Amended 2024-06-27 to suggest LibreWolf as a best-compromise path forward for Gecko/Quantum-based browsing, alongside Blink-based ungoogled-chromium.)

(Note: I'm aware of Parabola's Iceweasel-libre. It does not appear to address this issue.)
@ada #Iceweasel exists tho.
Maybe you didn't know but now a repository of add-ons for Firefox-based browsers which only offers those with free licenses exists, and is called #Mozzarella
It is part of #GNUzilla,
https://gnuzilla.gnu.org/mozzarella
Both #Parabola and #Trisquel are already beginning to use this new repository of plugins on their browsers.
Whether for, #Abrowser (118+) or in #Iceweasel.
This project is in early development, so contributions are welcome on the development list, gnuzilla-dev
