Found a TV clip from 1965 of the ending song. I love the horrified expression on the singer’s face when she gets to the chorus and starts describing the black flies.
I really feel like this movie is a love story to my homeland.
Everywhere in the wilderness in Northern Ontario is a violent nature - you can be killed by the bears, the moose, the rapids, the hunters, the cold, the black flies, even an undead man child looking for his talisman.
And it's just nature, it's just violent. It's not personal.
Yeah, it's not any kind of art if it's not manipulating the feelings of the audience.

I love how we shift POV for this part of the movie. And it's to the one guy who knows the lore and has been through this before.

I feel like I remember reading something about why this movie is in 4:3 rather than something wider but can't easily find it again.
Envisioning a time loop movie where grown up Johnny is the man in the firefighter mask who scares child Johnny off the fire tower.

All this talk about Johnny has had my mental soundtrack playing snippets of the first verse of Patti Smith’s “Horses”.
That's a gorgeous horizon. And I think Johnny thinks so too.
These sounds just make me want to me at my cottage. Bird song, swimming sounds, someone coming out of the water. I just love it.
With the mask, he kind of looks like he shambled into this movie from Mad God, and no wonder he's a serial killer after that.

This long playing tape player is super relaxing and zen. I could get a lot of work done to this particular piece of the soundtrack.
