I just checked out the last.fm page for South Korean indie/psychedelic rock band Guckkasten after shuffle play played one of my favourite songs by them, and discovered that they released a new album in September that I completely missed. This week's #MusicWomenWednesday is another surprise find I stumbled across on Bandcamp. Apparently in the 90s/early 2000s there was a band called Joan of Arc in Chicago, and AITIS BAND features two of Joan of Arc's former members. Featuring a combination of dueling Roland eg101s, a MicroKorg, a fake guitar, and a bass, Aitis Band's new LP 'IV' comes out Friday. There's some cool minimalism and hooks all over these three preview songs-- psyched to hear the full thing later this week.

I’ve been a lifelong devotee of Grant Lee Phillips; starting in the #90s with those PHENOMENAL Grant Lee Buffalo albums, as well as his solo work over the past 25 years.
I’ve always been enamoured of his incredible songwriting, as well as his fantastic voice.
He’s one of those dudes, man. You hear him, and you know it’s him. It couldn’t possibly be anybody else.
Dude is super prolific; not just writing tons of songs, but tons of GREAT songs.
And yes, ladies, he does look familiar to you. You HAVE seen him before.
You may remember him from all of those “Gilmore Girls” nights you’ve spent with the rest of your clucking hens.
He played the town troubadour.

Having a bit of a Thrill Jockey day today, I guess.
First with some Trans Am, now a little Sea And Cake.
I love all of the players in the Thrill Jockey mafia; John McEntire, Sam Prekop, Archer Prewitt…
They all play on/produce/engineer each other’s records (McEntire produced Trans Am’s Surrender To The Night), and they all just seem like one big happy musical family. 😂
Runner clocks in at just a few ticks under 40 mins, and is more melodic and (dare I say?) pastoral sounding. It’s a bit different than the jazzy, jittery stuff from the early records, but equally fantastic.
They just have this sound about them that’s been very comforting to me over the years. They’ve never put a record I’ve disliked, and you can probably say the same about Thrill Jockey as a label.
